Our Open Mixed and 7โ9 Mixed KO Hockey teams recently enjoyed a fantastic day of competition, representing Grant High School with skill, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship. The Open Mixed team recorded impressive victories over Tenison Woods College and Saint Martins, while the 7โ9 Mixed team secured a strong win against Tenison Woods College. Congratulations to all players on their excellent performances, which have earned both teams a place in the next round against Naracoorte in Week 9.
A huge thank you goes to the Lower South East Hockey Association (LSEHA) for generously providing the use of the hockey turf and supplying umpires for the day. Their ongoing support helps make these opportunities possible for our students, and we greatly appreciate their contribution. We wish both teams the very best of luck as they continue their KO Hockey journey.

Yesterday, our Year 9/10 Boys Football Team competed in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Division 2 Year 9/10 Statewide Football Competition.
The first match saw Grant High School take on Mount Gambier High School in wet morning conditions. While struggling in the air the boys played a strong on the ground, building a 35-point lead by half-time. After a strong third quarter from Mount Gambier High School, Grant responded well, kicking away in the final term to secure a convincing victory.
The second match was against Naracoorte High School. Grant High School struggled to convert opportunities early, while Naracoorte kicked two first-half goals to take the lead into the third quarter. A competitive third term saw Grant kick two goals and build momentum heading into the final quarter. In a low-scoring final term, Grant managed to sneak through a goal in the closing minutes to secure a hard-fought 6-point victory.
The two wins see Grant High School progress to Round 3 of the competition. Congratulations to all players on their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Thank you to our student and staff helpers for their assistance throughout the day, and to East Gambier Football Club for generously allowing us to use their venue.

On our recent Student Free Day, Grant High School took a fresh approach to professional learning by partnering with 25 local businesses and organisations across Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast. Our staff had the unique opportunity to experience the skills and attributes that young people need after they leave school, while also exploring ways to integrate authentic, real-world problems into their teaching.
The enthusiasm and excitement shown by our staff, especially on the Friday before a long weekend was outstanding. During the afternoon, teams began to plan how these invaluable insights could be built into the learning program, laying the foundation for ongoing development throughout the year.
We are excited to see how our staff will incorporate what they discovered, ensuring our students engage in meaningful learning that goes beyond what can be found online and is deeply connected to the world around them.

With the weather already feeling like a big freeze in Mount Gambier, our staff and students had no trouble pulling on their blue beanies today in support of The Big Freeze and the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
More than just keeping warm, our blue beanies were worn as a sign of respect for the late Neale Daniher and the extraordinary legacy he created through his determination to find a cure for MND.
Thank you to everyone who wore blue and made a donation. Every dollar raised helps fund vital research and support those impacted by MND.

This Thursday, students are invited to wear a blue beanie to school and bring along a gold coin donation to support The Big Freeze and raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The Big Freeze has become one of Australia's most recognised fundraising campaigns thanks to the tireless efforts and determination of Neale Daniher. Through his courage, resilience and unwavering commitment, Neale inspired millions of Australians to take action in the fight against MND.
By wearing a blue beanie and making a small donation, our school community can help continue the incredible legacy Neale created while supporting people living with MND and funding vital research towards a cure.

Throughout Term 2, Mr Kelton and the Stage 1 Sports Development & Coaching class partnered with Moorak Primary School to deliver soccer coaching sessions for Reception and Year 1 students.
After learning coaching theory and developing their leadership skills, students planned and ran engaging sessions both at Moorak Primary School and Grant High School, gaining valuable real-world coaching experience along the way.
The program concluded with a fantastic collaboration with the Mount Gambier Library for National Simultaneous Storytime, where students led soccer activities before joining more than one million Australians in reading Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller.
A huge thank you to Kate Ellis, the staff at Moorak Primary School, and the Mount Gambier Library for helping make this rewarding experience possible.

Yesterday, Grant High School was proud to stand alongside Mount Gambier High School and Mount Gambier North Primary School to host a meaningful community event in recognition of National Reconciliation Week.
This yearโs theme, โAll Inโ, as highlighted by Reconciliation South Australia, reminds us that Reconciliation is not the responsibility of just a few, but a shared commitment that requires all Australians to listen, learn, reflect and walk together toward a more united future. It is a call for every individual, school and community to play their part in building stronger relationships grounded in truth, respect and understanding.
The afternoon commenced with a powerful Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country led by Uncle Ken, creating a space for reflection, respect and connection. Guests then heard thoughtful addresses from Caroline Davey, Principal of Grant High School, Department for Education Senior Executive Clare Feszczak and Reconciliation South Australia Board Member Lauren Letton, each speaking to the importance of continuing the journey of Reconciliation within our community.
A moving didgeridoo performance by Nathan Watson, accompanied by his sons Lukas and Cooper served as a powerful reminder of the strength of culture, connection and the importance of sharing knowledge across generations.
Together, we continue to move forward ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐ง .

On Monday, 25 May 2026, Mount Gambier celebrated 150 years since its Proclamation with a commemorative tree planting ceremony along the railway trail between Crouch Street and Ferrers Street. Representing Grant High School were five SLED students who attended the event alongside other local schools and community members.
Mayor Lynette Martin OAM welcomed attendees and reflected on the rich history of Mount Gambier, highlighting significant landmarks such as the Town Hall, Centenary Tower, the Riddoch Art Centre, and Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre. Guest speaker Dr Richard โHarryโ Harris then shared his personal connection to Mount Gambier and its caves, including his experiences exploring the waters of the Blue Lake.
To conclude the ceremony, our students mulched the Grant High School tree, and Mayor Martin presented each school with a commemorative plaque in recognition of their participation in celebrating this significant milestone for Mount Gambier, and helping become part of Mount Gambier's history.
