Such a wonderful description of sign language; so much more to Auslan than just the signs.
(NOTE: This video is in ASL; it is NOT Auslan. But the principles still apply).

10 things to consider when speaking to someone in conversation if you deaf, HoH, Audio Processing Disorder (APD) or other disabilities.
10 things to consider when speaking to someone who has hearing loss and utilizes cochlear implants or/and hearing aids:
•If you speak in a quiet voice, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If your back is turned, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If there is background noise (a gym, music, TV, cross-talking), they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If you are more than 3-6 feet away, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If they cannot see your face when you are speaking, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If their devices are off, they will miss all of what you say.
•If they have a cold or are sick, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•If someone has a strong accent, they will miss some or all of what you say.
•Hearing loss is an invisible disability: It is harder than it looks.
•Listening with hearing loss can be exhausting. Every environment takes effort to hear. Be patient and kind.
