Update

𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗡

A document sighting guidelines to reopen schools in the country for the 2022 academic year is now currently under the discussion of the Ministry of Education, National Disaster Operation Centre and the Ministry of Health.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare revealed this in his nationwide address today saying the document is now in its finalization stage.
He said the paper will “present guidelines and conditions need to be met for schools to reopen”.

“Once concluded the paper and its recommendations will be presented to the Oversight Committee for further deliberation and ultimately to cabinet for a decision”.

Since the pandemic hit the country with a community outbreak in mid-January 2022 schools have been forced to be suspended while the Ministry of Education debate on best possible way to present lessons to students throughout the country. The pandemic has also forced the delay of releasing the 2022 official secondary school results.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Sogavare said “all schools in the country will remain close until a determination is made on the reopening of schools”.

Update teachers and students

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝

Commencement of all schools in the country for this year is delayed by one week, and not on Monday 24 January as initially instructed, says the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Dr Franco Rodie.

Dr Rodie advised all education directors and secretaries that he made a decision to delay commencement of the 2022 School Academic year by one week.

This was after the consultation with the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Oversight Committee this afternoon.
