Douglas Arts Studio Gallery - DAB

DAB is a not-for-profit community arts centre run by volunteers. Everyone is welcome at DAB. Douglas Arts Base is a place for everyone.

We are a hub for local artists and artisans, providing quality opportunities for the whole community to learn, create, exhibit, visit, and inspire. DAB welcomes complete beginners and experienced artists, those who sell their work and those who just want to dabble a bit. The atmosphere is fun, the people are friendly and supportive, and the tutors are all highly qualified professionals. Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced artist, DAB is for you.

We have two places left in our exciting Weekend Pastels Workshop with talented visiting artist Maxine Thomson. Workshop dates are Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September 8:30am-4pm each day.

For pastel beginners and experienced artists, Maxine demonstrates and explains each step followed by participant exercises to learn/refresh basic and more advanced techniques with pastels, sharpen your observation skills, with exercise activities. You'll be amazed at what you create in this supportive and enjoyable workshop 😁

Cost: $370 non members ($330 members discount)

DAB's latest exhibition 'Coastal Fringe' is now open 🎉🥳
Visit DAB Gallery at 11 Mill Street Mossman to check out the gorgeous artworks by our talented local artists.
From acrylic and watercolour paintings to ceramics, glass art and mosaics, there's something for everyone at DAB.
Our Gallery is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 2pm. Entry to the exhibition is by gold coin donation.
DAB's 'Coastal Fringe' exhibition is open until 5 September.

Just a few places left in this fabulous weekend workshop coming soon to DAB!
Join professional pastel artist, Maxine Thompson, to learn how to create amazing artworks using soft pastels. Check out some of Maxine's award-winning work on her website http://www.maxinethompsonartist.com/ and her page https://www.facebook.com/maxinethompsonartist/

Maxine is an exceptionally talented artist and teacher. She has been to DAB previously, and everyone who attended her workshop commented on how much they enjoyed the course. With her excellent tuition, everyone came away having completed incredible pastel portraits.

This year, she will start the first day with demonstrations and exercises, which are suitable for beginners and all others who need reminders. Then everyone will move on to completing their own artwork based on their own reference material, with extra demonstrations on request.

The workshop will be on the weekend of the 5th and 6th September, 8.30am to 4pm each day. This is a great opportunity to refresh or learn basic and advanced pastel painting techniques from a talented and experienced artist and teacher, and produce your own amazing pastel artwork.

Cost: $370 non-members (members discount $330)

Lots of cool new workshops including cyanotype printing, eco printing, and lino printing; a fabulous weekend pastels workshop; silk painting course, and regular favourites including pottery, glass art, copper foiling, drawing, mosaics, and more!

It's a perfect day to enjoy some amazing art at DAB's fabulous Carnivale exhibition 'Tropical Spectrum'.
Head on down to the Port Douglas Community Hall on Mowbray Street to check out unique artworks by 47 of our talented local DAB artists.
Watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings, botanical art, sketches and drawings, pottery and glasswork, mosaics, mixed media and fibre weaving - 400 artworks showcasing the tropical spectrum 🌴
Exhibition is open 9.30am -- 5pm daily until Thursday 28 May.
