The Montessori Teachers Association of WA (MTAWA) conference was held on 15 April, 2024. Kei Ikeda, an inspiring speaker from Montessori Dance, captivated our audience of 110 attendees from Beehive, Casa Mia, Chrysalis, Margaret River, Rockingham Montessori, Perth Montessori, and Banksia. The day was filled with engaging activities including Dance workshops, informative sessions on the Transparent Classroom, and lively networking opportunities among colleagues and fellow Montessorians. We extend our gratitude to Beehive Montessori School for graciously sharing their beautiful school with us for our 2024 MTAWA Conference, and look forward to planning for 2025.

The International Montessori Congress is a large-scale educational congress which has a direct and unbroken lineage to the first 1929 Montessori Congress under the leadership of Maria Montessori.
Not only is each Congress hosted in a different country, but they also change continents, to enable as many people as possible to enjoy the inspiration these congresses bring.
The goal of the Congress is to raise worldwide awareness and understanding of Montessori education and provide a platform for Montessori professionals to connect with one another. Wonderful to see so many of our MTA members attending the Congress and gaining such valuable experience. We look forward to hearing their stories upon their return.

SMTC Presents:
TIPS - Theory into Practice Series

TiPS is a skills based, development series designed to support educators to put “theory into practice”.
Run online on the first Monday of the month, the sessions are facilitated by SMTC’s AMI trainers and trainers-in-training and are one hour with an additional 30-minute Q&A afterwards, an opportunity for educators to ask the trainers about challenges they have encountered. Each session is $20 plus GST.
Join AMI Trainer-in-Training, Emily Dowell, online via zoom for our July session on Monday 3 July at 7pm (AEST) which is 5pm Perth time.

In From Childhood to Adolescence, Dr. Montessori identifies a farm as the ideal prepared environment for the 12-18 year old but the young people we work with a more likely to reside in urban or suburban settings. This session will review why Montessori believed work on the land is essential to the optimal development of adolescents and examine how even the most urban Adolescent Communities can incorporate these principles.

Spelling with Peter Erskine (AMI 6-12 Trainer-in-Training)

Do aspects of classroom work such as spelling, grammar, reading and writing, at times, become a source of anxiety in your Montessori classroom?
Join AMI 6-12 Trainer in Training, Peter Erskine for this online via zoom workshop to work on spelling in a Montessori context.
The Montessori teacher is fortunate to be working within a pedagogy that provides a stable, coherent and consistent set of practices, materials and methods. Montessori pedagogy provides a map and signposts along with a shared language that has a strong explanatory power.
During this workshop Peter invites the Montessori 6-12 teacher to take a closer look at spelling with the aim of assisting teachers to renew the connection between language exploration in Cosmic Education and the communal and cultural contexts that support it with takeaways that hopefully enable you to make advancements in this area in your classroom.
Details:
Saturday 22 July from 10am to 1.15am AEST (8am to 11.15am Perth time)
Cost $85 plus GST

The transformative nature of Montessori education lies in its ability to empower children to become independent, self-motivated, and compassionate individuals who love learning and approach the world with curiosity and confidence. It fosters a lifelong love of learning, critical thinking skills, and a strong foundation for academic and personal success.
