Our Artist in Residence program has continued this term, with Upper Primary students now having had the opportunity to take part in a series of workshops with Gaia Leonardi Morigi.

Gaia is an Italian ceramicist who has worked with the school before in previous ceramics workshops we have run with past parent and ceramicist Fleur Schell. She is an experienced pottery teacher and regularly runs workshops with children in both Australia and Italy.

Check out these great snaps of the Upper Primary students in action - they have enjoyed getting to explore how clay works, and the opportunity to get creative on individual projects.

Gaia looks forward to continuing to work with our students for the remainder of this term.

Last Wednesday, we welcomed families into La Casa della Terra for the last chapter in our parent education orientation series - the Orientation to Adolescence.

Following an informative session by Bronwyn around the developmental needs of children entering the third plane of development, our students spoke with parents to share their work, experiences and what everyday life looks like in La Casa della Terra.

We are delighted to share the recently finalised Beehive Montessori School Safe Routes to School Access Guide, prepared in partnership with Your Move and WestCycle.

The purpose of this guide is to show a range of safe and popular walking and cycling routes, that can be accessed by students and their families for an active journey to school.

The map provided in the guide also highlights the following:
- Traffic lights
- Busy areas with unattended crossings
- Crossings with attendants
- 'Park and Walk' points
- Bicycle parking
- Shared paths
- Bicycle lanes or sealed shoulders

It was lovely to have Lara, a representative from the Leukaemia Foundation, visit Beehive this morning, to present recognition certificates to our fabulous World's Greatest Shave participants during Kobori.

We are very proud of Victoria, Francesca, Jaz, Zuma, Bo & Alby for losing their locks and taking a stand against blood cancer!

Today the Beehive community celebrated World Bee Day!

World Bee Day is a global celebration of bees and the crucial role they play in the health of our planet, contributing to food security, biodiversity, and ecosystem stability.

It was wonderful to see many children come through the gates this morning dressed in yellow and black and bee-themed attire, as well as many coming dressed up as actual bees!

Our primary classes also enjoyed a presentation on native bees by WA Horticulturist and bee enthusiast, Faye Arcaro.

Today we acknowledge the beginning of National Road Safety Week in Australia.

This annual initiative from the Safer Australia Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, in partnership with road safety organisations, is aimed at raising awareness about road safety and reducing the impact of road trauma.

Later in the week on Friday May 22, we acknowledge National Walk Safely to School Day, which encourages primary school children to walk to school and be alert to road safety.

We also shine a light on the important role that traffic wardens play in safeguarding children and the broader community at busy roads and intersections.

This is therefore an opportune time to spotlight our fantastic Beehive traffic warden, Trevor Sweeting. Trevor has been the traffic warden at Beehive for the past six years. He is married with three children, ten grandchildren and one great grandson!

Every morning before manning our crosswalk, Trevor swims 700m in the ocean at Leighton Beach. Trevor is a member of the Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club, and has been flying for most of his adult life in power aircraft gliders and ultralights.

Trevor enjoys his mornings and afternoons as the Beehive traffic warden. He loves that the children of Beehive are all so well mannered, and enjoys getting to speak with the parents every day.

Another year, another successful and very well attended Family Fun Day & Crazy Hair Day, all rolled into one!

There was a buzz of excitement as children (and adults!) got to enjoy the different activities on offer throughout the afternoon. The bravest volunteers put their hand up to hold and interact with snakes and other reptiles under the watchful eye of Lisa from Perth Reptile Company, whilst others enjoyed having their faces beautifully painted by Fairy Sandie & Fairy Emma from The Pickled Fairy.

Our school bands and choir kept families entertained throughout the afternoon, whilst our Adolescent Program students were busy keeping everyone well-fed with a delicious sausage sizzle! Ben from Quokka Carts was also with us for the afternoon, with a range of yummy icy poles on offer which were certainly a crowd pleaser!

We also had a number of Beehive students running their own stalls, with assorted items for sale to support the Leukaemia Foundation. This included recent Beehive graduate Elliot Hadfield, selling his well-loved Big Dog screen-printed t-shirts.

We are so proud of Jaz, Bo, Victoria, Alby, Francesca & Zuma for losing their locks and taking a stand against blood cancer!

Check out these fantastic shots of the World's Greatest Shave in action last Friday afternoon, perfectly captured by Beehive parent Stevye Photography!

Almost $3000 in total was raised for the Leukaemia Foundation during our Crazy Hair Day & Family Fun Day - thank you and well done to everyone that was involved!

Blood cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian children, with over 120 types of blood cancer in existence, including Lymphoma & Leukaemia.

Every dollar raised through the World's Greatest Shave helps provide those families affected with the support they need, while powering critical research projects that bring us closer to a future free of blood cancer.

We invite you to join us at an upcoming eSafety and Healthier Screen Use Parent Workshop with Anke Lasserre, on Monday May 11 (6:00 - 7:30pm).

Anke Lasserre is a highly regarded and experienced parenting coach and community educator, who offers practical, research-based workshops that strengthen school communities, support families and help students thrive in a digital world. She is the founder of FamilyFlow, and is a former Beehive parent.

Anke will share information, proven strategies and pragmatic tools that parents can use straight away to keep their child/ren safer online and to reduce friction around device use at home.

Topics covered will include:
- Key challenges around videos, online games and smartphones
- How much screentime and which apps are appropriate at which age
- Online dangers and how to avoid/navigate them
- How to manage screentime more peacefully and successfully

This workshop will combine the latest research with real-world strategies and practical advice. The handout will include a screentime contract, a checklist of warning signs of imbalanced screen use in children and recommended online resources for further information.

This workshop is aimed at parents of children up to 12 years old.
