Isaiah is building his experience!

Year 10 student Isaiah is spending the week on work experience with Flair Homes, getting hands-on and seeing what a career in construction is really like.

So far, Isaiah has been involved in:
Demolition, sanding , and prepping timber for a deck structure.

The team at Flair Homes have described Isaiah as a “nice kid to have around” and it sounds like he’s making the most of the opportunity to learn some new skills and get stuck into the work!

Celebrating VET Excellence on the South Coast!

It was fantastic to see our students recognised at the South Coast Schools Excellence in Vocational Education & Training Awards 2026.

VET and School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) provide students with the opportunity to work towards an accredited qualification, gain valuable workplace experience and build skills that can lead directly into employment. With ongoing workforce shortages across many trade and industry areas, these pathways are becoming more important than ever.

We were incredibly proud to see Imogen and Chelsea recognised for their outstanding work as SBATs while also juggling the demands of their HSC studies. Both girls were awarded with a certificate of excellence.

Imogen is completing a Certificate III in Hairdressing, while Chelsea is working towards a Certificate II in Track Racing and a Certificate III in Business Services.

Both girls have shown an amazing level of commitment, balancing school, HSC work, study and employment and they are very deserving of the recognition they received.

A special extra congratulations to Chelsea, who was awarded Highly Commended Student!

Of the three major awards presented on the day, one came home with us! Something we are incredibly proud of!

Well done Imogen and Chelsea. Your hard work, commitment and willingness to take on opportunities are a fantastic example of what can be achieved thWorkplace Learning.

TALON’S CAREER IN MOTION!

Talon has been enjoying his week at See Change Physiotherapy, getting an insight into the day-to-day work of a physiotherapist.

He has been observing a range of different physio procedures and learning more about the skills and knowledge involved in the profession.

Applications for the Moruya Rotary Club 2026–27 Youth Scholarships are NOW OPEN!

If you’re a local Year 12 student finishing school this year and planning to head off to tertiary study in 2027, this could be an opportunity worth applying for.

The Rotary Club of Moruya is proud to invest in the next generation of local leaders by providing financial assistance towards the costs of tertiary education.

💰 Scholarships of up to $4,500
📚 Support across your first two years of tertiary study, 2027 and 2028
🌱 Designed to help local young people achieve their educational goals and make a positive contribution to our community.

Applicants must live within the Moruya District, between the Tomaga River in the north and the Tuross River in the south, including Moruya, Broulee and Tuross Head.

We’re looking for young people who can demonstrate financial need, community involvement, leadership potential and commitment to their future.

Another Experience Under His Belt!

Austin A. from Year 11 is no stranger to work experience! After completing multiple placements, he’s continuing to explore different industries and build his skills -this time with Innovate Tile Co.

Austin has been measuring, marking out, cutting and laying tiles, as well as helping with grouting and silicone. He’s also learning about safe tool use, keeping work areas tidy and seeing the different stages of a bathroom renovation come together.

With every placement, Austin is gaining new skills, trying something different and getting a better idea of where his future might take him.

A huge thank you to Innovate Tile Co. for giving Austin another opportunity to learn, get stuck in and experience the world of work!

DIGGING IN

Lachy W from Year 10 is spending the week with Jonathon from Spaces, getting hands-on experience in the landscaping industry.

He’s been busy helping transform outdoor areas and bring them to life, and is absolutely loving his week so far!

Lachy isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty and has been getting stuck into every task.

It’s great to see Lachy growing his skills, gaining valuable workplace experience and getting a taste of what a career in landscaping could look like.

WHAT A BEAUTY OF A PLACEMENT

Taylah has been learning the ropes at RAW Beauty Moruya with Ellie this week, getting a great taste of what life in the beauty industry is really like.

Her placement has included facials, manicures, observation and cleaning, giving her the chance to see all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a beauty business.

And during the WEX check, Mrs Eke was asked to be Taylah’s practice client and walked away with an express facial! Best WEX check ever!!!

A great hands-on experience for Taylah and a fantastic opportunity to explore a career in beauty. Thanks to Ellie for welcoming her in and helping her learn the ropes!

Work Experience at Moruya District Hospital

Five of our MHS students have spent the week getting a behind-the-scenes look at the world of healthcare through Work Experience at Moruya District Hospital.

The students have rotated through a range of areas including Theatre, Surgical, Maternity, SARU (Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Unit), ED (Emergency Department), Renal and COU (Close Observation Unit)- gaining an insight into the many different careers and roles within a hospital.

Each student has had a fantastic experience and taken something different away from the week:

Taite loved his time in ED and particularly enjoyed the positive interactions he was able to have with patients.

Mackenzie had the opportunity to observe a surgical procedure and see first-hand what happens behind the scenes in theatre.

Sethmi gained a valuable insight into the range of pathways and opportunities available within a medical career.

Kyra was particularly keen to get into the Surgical Unit and explore what happens in this area of the hospital.

Olivia loved the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Department and seeing the fast-paced environment in action.

A huge thank you to Moruya District Hospital and all the staff who welcomed our students, shared their knowledge and gave them such a valuable opportunity to explore careers in healthcare.

Experiences like this can be a great way for students to discover what they enjoy -and sometimes, just as importantly, what they don't!

STRONG FOUNDATIONS START WITH SOFT SKILLS

Year 9 Careers students have been exploring the soft skills we use in everyday life and the workplace, discovering just how transferable they are.

Through challenges like the paper tower activity, students have been putting teamwork, communication, creativity, problem-solving and resilience into action.

A little paper, a lot of teamwork and plenty of learning along the way!
