Last Friday SASPA Chief Executive, Kirsty Amos had the pleasure of visiting Wirreanda Secondary School and seeing firsthand the incredible work taking place across the school community. ⭐
She was guided by three impressive Year 12 students, Maddie, Emma and Ameera, and Principal Karla Pobke. It was wonderful to hear the school’s story through the eyes of its students while seeing learning in action.
Highlights included the recently refurbished VET facilities, innovative STEM learning spaces and welcoming wellbeing areas. It was also a delight to meet Iris, the school’s assistance Labrador, who provides comfort and companionship to students and staff. ✨
The impact of programs such as Clontarf and STARS was evident, reflecting the school’s commitment to helping students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
What stood out most for Kirsty was how clearly Wirreanda’s vision of developing respectful, resilient and responsible learners is being lived every day. 🤝
On Wednesday 27 May we welcomed the Honourable Nat Cook MP, Member for Hurtle Vale, to our Cadet Unit 433 ACU Wirreanda.
She shared fun stories from her time as a Cadet and her journey to becoming Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly. We were pleased to have her join us as she watched our Administration Parade and Drill Lesson.
Thank you for visiting and engaging with our Cadets to let them see where their Leadership skills in Cadets could take them.
A delicious cultural experience at Breakfast Club this week🌟
Students enjoyed trying string hoppers - a beloved Sri Lankan and South Indian dish made by pressing rice flour dough into delicate net-like strands and steaming them to perfection. These versatile favourites can be enjoyed sweet with coconut and sugar, or savoury with curries and stir-fried dishes.
It was wonderful to see students exploring new flavours and learning about food from different cultures. 🍽️
A massive shoutout to our talented Year 10 student, James 'Jimmy', for creating this absolutely beautiful guernsey design for the Santos Aboriginal Power Cup through SAASTA!
Seeing the team run out onto the field wearing Jimmy's design with so much pride was an incredible moment for our whole school community.
Amazing work, Jimmy! Your talent and culture shone bright out there. 🖤💛❤️
A huge congratulations to our SAASTA student, Cora C, for winning the Think Road Safety Campaign focused on speeding.
Cora created the winning design and slogan, showcasing a powerful message around road safety and the importance of making safe choices on our roads. Her outstanding work was recognised at the Power Cup Awards, where the award was proudly presented by Police Commissioner Grant Stevens.
We are incredibly proud of Cora’s creativity, leadership and commitment to promoting safer communities. Well done, Cora! 👏🖤💛❤️

National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, while reflecting on the ongoing journey towards justice and reconciliation for First Nations peoples. This year’s theme, All In, encourages us all to commit to reconciliation not just during one week, but every day through our actions, relationships and communities.
Together, we continue to learn, listen and walk forward as one.
