One of the electives for our Year 9 students at Padua College is Forensic Science. It’s a predominantly ‘hands on’ subject that blends multiple scientific disciplines including Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and focuses on scientific process and techniques used to identify criminals and solve crimes.
According to Year 9 Sebastian student Abby J, “The Forensic Science elective was fun, hands on, and different from my other subjects. I learnt so many different ways forensic scientists solve cases like analysing evidence. All the practical activities helped me understand how real investigations work, and I liked that we got to solve cases ourselves instead of just learning theory.
My favourite part was definitely our final assessment. When we walked into the classroom, the whole room had been set up into a realistic crime scene. There were blood testing stations, fingerprint analysis tables, witness statements, footprint tracks, and documents we had to examine for clues. It felt like stepping into an actual investigation and I really enjoyed working through each piece of evidence and seeing how all the clues connected.”

Our Year 10 Applied Learning students have recently completed work experience placements across the Mornington Peninsula, gaining valuable insight into a variety of industries and workplaces.
This experience provided students with the opportunity to develop practical skills, build confidence, and explore potential career pathways while gaining a firsthand understanding of the world of work.
We thank all of the local businesses and organisations that supported our students and helped make this a meaningful learning experience.

Last week, Year 9 Padua College students from across all campuses came together for the Aspire (Work Ready) Unit. It was a valuable opportunity for students to hear from alumni, as well as two current Year 12 students, who shared their personal journeys through school. They spoke openly about their experiences, the challenges they faced, and reflected on the advice they would give their younger selves.
Following the presentations, students selected and participated in a workshop that aligned with their interests. These included visits to local TAFEs and hands-on sessions in areas such as art, engineering, food studies, renewable energy and performing arts. The variety of options allowed students to explore potential pathways and connect their interests with future opportunities.
