🌟 HIPPY Parent Group Fun Today! 🌟

We had such a lovely time at our HIPPY Parent Group today! 💕 The children had lots of fun exploring a sensory activity, while the parents got creative making their very own custom keyrings. 🎨🔑

There were plenty of smiles, creativity and great moments shared by everyone. It was wonderful to see both the children and parents enjoying themselves and connecting together. 💗

Thank you to everyone who came along and made today so special! 🌸✨

Today at HIPPY Moree, we proudly celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day! 🖤💛❤️💙💚🤍
It was a wonderful day celebrating the rich cultures, stories, and traditions of our people the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We were honoured to welcome our respected local Elders, Aunty Deb Haines, Aunty Pat McGrady, and Uncle Fred McGrady, who shared a special Storytime session with our children. We were also pleased to have Councillor Mr Wayne Tighe join us for the celebrations.

Families enjoyed a range of meaningful cultural activities that encouraged learning, connection, and respect for the world's oldest continuing cultures. Throughout the day, everyone had the opportunity to participate in:
🌿 Aboriginal-inspired arts and crafts
📚 Cultural learning activities
🖤 Storytime with our respected Elders
🤝 Connecting with other families
🍎 Light refreshments

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this celebration so special. Days like today remind us of the importance of learning from, celebrating, and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, while creating lasting memories for our children and families.

Recipe to make fun dirt

Items Needed
3 cups flour
1 cup cocoa
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
1. Place all ingredients into a large shallow tub or tray and mix well until lumps form with the dough, it should start to exhibit a “crumbly’ consistency similar to dirt!

2. Add diggers, figurines, utensils etc - anything can be added to this depending on the age and interests of your child!

Differentiation
You can double or triple this recipe when making for larger groups of children!

Disclaimer
*To make this activity taste-safe, be sure to heat-treat the flour before use. Heat treating flour kills the harmful bacteria that can be hidden in raw flour such as salmonella and E. Coli. Spread flour onto a baking tray and bake for 5-10 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius before making your cloud dough.

Today's HIpPY Parent Group Activities 🌾🚜🕯️

Today our little learners enjoyed two engaging sensory invitations: a farm small world and a construction site.

Through open-ended play, the children explored, imagined, and created their own stories while moving the farm animals and construction vehicles through the sensory materials.

These activities supported the development of:
🐄 Fine motor skills through grasping, scooping, and moving the toys.

🗣️ Language and communication as children named animals, vehicles, and described their play.

💭 Imagination and creativity by creating their own scenarios and stories.

🧩 Problem-solving as they explored how to move materials and navigate their vehicles.

🔢 Early maths concepts, including counting, sorting, comparing, and using words such as full, empty, more, and less.

🤝 Social skills through sharing, taking turns, and playing alongside friends.

Sensory play also encourages concentration and provides children with opportunities to investigate, discover, and learn at their own pace in a fun and engaging environment.

We were also delighted to welcome parents into the session, where they had the opportunity to create a beautiful candle holder to take home. It was lovely to see families getting creative together and sharing a special moment while making something unique to enjoy at home.

Today, HIPPY proudly participated in our Family Day celebration for NAIDOC Week.

Our HIPPY activity invited children to create the Aboriginal Flag using colourful handprints, symbolising unity, creativity, and community. The children also had lots of fun decorating biscuits in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag, and their excitement and enthusiasm made the activities a wonderful success.

There was something for everyone to enjoy throughout the day, including face painting, balloon creations, karaoke, and a delicious curry cook-off. It was fantastic to see families coming together to celebrate, connect, and learn.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a memorable occasion. It was a wonderful celebration of culture, community, and the spirit of NAIDOC Week🖤💛❤️
