There's plenty of stories from parents about schools suggesting their child either goes into the disability class (!!), gets medicated (!!!) or finds another school more able to meet their child's needs.

When a child isn't thriving in their learning their experiences and desire to learn are hindered and sometimes harmed.

Traditional schooling isnt a one size fits all approach to education. We cant expect every child to fit in to the boxes we create.

God has made each child unique and varied in ability. The 'boxes' we make should be in response to the needs we are presented with, with the aim of helping the student and their family become all that Christ made them to be.

If you are a teacher, education support worker or therapy practitioner this a brilliant podcast episode about the value and importance of being culturally responsive. To not, is to contribute to the pipeline between school and prison, and contribute to the ever expanding gaps in learning and wellbeing.

We need to consider that perhaps a student might not have a learning disability, but rather a learning difference. Culturally responsive education affirms and values a student's cultural identity, giving them the security to learn and develop well.
