HUB Biology

HUB Biology HUB Biology is the biology faculty of the Holistic University of Brisbane (HUB) Biology - the study of life - is essential knowledge for a healthy humanity.

Unfortunately, biology has traditionally been taught in a reductionist way, inclined to specialisation such that a holistic view of nature and life has been lost. The Holistic University Network is devoted to teaching about nature and living organisms in a way that does not perpetuate the British myth that nature is "red in tooth and claw" and that wild beasts need to be subdued, or shot and dissected for scientific study. At HUB Biology we study nature with a camera in preference to a scalpel, though we do use magnifying glasses and microscopes. We're not Luddites, but we do think that careful observation of animals in their natural habitat is preferable to high-tech laboratory animal studies, and less likely to produce harmful results.
