Process writing. Whole language. Multiple intelligences. Thinking hats. Outcomes. Data walls. Growth mindset. HITS. Cognitive load theory. Explicit instruction.
If you have been in a classroom since the 1980s, you have been trained in all of it, mostly without being asked. We laid the whole forty years out as a timeline: forty-nine additions, four withdrawals. Almost nothing was ever taken away.
The full timeline, decade by decade, and what each era left worth keeping:
The evolution of teaching
From process writing to mandated explicit teaching: a decade-by-decade timeline of the professional learning waves Australian teachers have absorbed since the 1980s, what each era left worth keeping, and what it costs that almost none were ever retired.

Slides, units and scope-and-sequences are products. Pedagogy is what teachers do inside them. On what gets lost when the two collapse into each other.
If it's not on a slide, it's not part of the curriculum

AI is arriving in schools the way search did: by integration, not announcement. New on the blog, on what that means for teaching, and the question worth answering first.
The end isn't nigh. It's integrating.
AI is arriving in schools the way search did, by integration rather than announcement. On what that means for teaching, and the question worth answering first: what do we want teachers to do?

Where would we be without our teachers?! As always, we stand with our educators - not just today, but everyday - to help them shine like the heroes they are. It's a tough gig these days, which is why we do everything we can to support... including developing some VERY exciting new tools which we cannot wait to share next year (watch this space)!
In the meantime, grab a cuppa and doff your cap to yourselves and your teams - you've earned it.

Introducing… MAPPEN Professional Development workshops!
MAPPEN was created to provide an opportunity for educators to hone their teaching practice, develop skills in context, and reflect on their own learning. But we recognise that sometimes teams want, or need, to spend more time exploring specific pedagogies.
Delivered by our founder (and educator of 40 years) Karen Green, these workshops are designed to enhance your teaching practice as a team, improve student engagement and academic outcomes, and can be tailored to your needs and timeline - no MAPPEN subscription required.

Thank you Primary School for letting us attend your Festival of Learning! At the end of last term, we popped in to attend this culminating event to celebrate student learning across the entire school, including the Exhibition Phase for four year groups' MAPPEN Question Based Investigations (QBI):
🟡 Foundation:
How can we keep our mind and body healthy? (Healthy Minds and Bodies QBI)
🟠 Year 1/2:
Why is reducing our waste important? (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle QBI)
🟢 Year 3/4:
Why is sport important? (Get Active QBI)
🔵 Year 5/6:
What influences our decisions about what we buy? (Spend and Save QBI)
It's so rare we get a chance to see the amazing achievements of MAPPEN students first hand, so we just had to share!
To all the amazing teachers at Sunshine for guiding your little ones through this inquiry - thank you again 🙏

Hats off to all the teachers this World Teachers' Day!!
Our teachers have shown great resilience during challenging times, all so they can give Australian students the best future possible. We are so proud to support those teachers.
We want to take our hat off this amazing lady - Amanda, our Education Consultant - who works TIRELESSLY every day to support teachers with their inquiry learning programs (even coordinating her sweaters with her text books!!).
