Bouquet vs. Posy — What’s the Difference?⁠

Ever wondered what the difference is between a bouquet and a posy? These two floral terms are often used interchangeably, but they refer to quite different styles — especially in size, structure, and purpose.⁠

A bouquet is generally larger, often more elaborate, and can be styled in a range of ways. Bouquets are commonly used for weddings, events, or as statement floral gifts.⁠

A posy, on the other hand, is a smaller, simpler arrangement — designed to be held in one hand. It’s often more delicate and subtle, making it perfect for flower girls, small gifts and thank you flowers.⁠

WHAT’S IN SEASON THIS WINTER?⁠

One of the most sustainable choices we can make as florists is to work within the seasons.⁠
⁠
Here in Victoria, winter offers a beautiful (and often underrated) range of floral materials that thrive in the colder months. ⁠
⁠
So, what’s blooming in winter? Look out for:⁠
• Hellebores – moody, elegant and long-lasting⁠
• Tulips – grown locally in abundance and with incredible colour options⁠
• Jonquils – with their fresh scent and cheerful faces⁠
• Proteas & Banksias – hardy, striking and iconic to Australia⁠
• Ranunculus – lush layers of delicate petals in vibrant and pastel hues⁠
• Stocks – tall, fragrant spikes that bring romance and softness to any arrangement⁠
• Anemones – striking dark centres and elegant petals, perfect for contrast and movement⁠
• Ornamental Kale – bold, leafy rosettes that bring a sculptural and unexpected twist to winter arrangements⁠
