Back in the space 🌿

This is what our classes feel like — calm, hands-on, and grounded in real floristry.

Our complete floristry course is designed for beginners… people who are curious about flowers and wondering if this could become something more.

You don’t need experience.
We start at the beginning — learning the foundations properly, working sustainably, and building confidence step by step.

If you’ve been quietly thinking maybe this is for me, I’d love to welcome you.

COLOUR THEORY IN FLORAL DESIGN

Understanding colour theory can completely transform the way your arrangements look and feel. Whether you are aiming for calm and romantic or bold and energetic, your choice of colour palette plays a powerful role.

Cool Colour Palettes:
Think blues, purples, soft pinks, and silvery greens. These tones create a calming, elegant, and serene atmosphere.

Warm Colour Palettes:
These include reds, oranges, yellows, and rich pinks. Warm tones bring energy, joy, and vibrancy to a design.

Choosing a palette can be based on personal preference, but it is often about creating a specific mood or meeting a client brief. A warm-toned arrangement will feel very different from a cool-toned one, even when using the same structure or shape.

Experiment, explore, and notice how colour can completely change the story of your design.

Colour theory is one of the many foundational skills taught in our Complete Floristry Course.

Bouquet vs. Posy — What’s the Difference?

Ever wondered what the difference is between a bouquet and a posy? These two floral terms are often used interchangeably, but they refer to quite different styles — especially in size, structure, and purpose.

A bouquet is generally larger, often more elaborate, and can be styled in a range of ways. Bouquets are commonly used for weddings, events, or as statement floral gifts.

A posy, on the other hand, is a smaller, simpler arrangement — designed to be held in one hand. It’s often more delicate and subtle, making it perfect for flower girls, small gifts and thank you flowers.

In short:
• Bouquet = bigger, bolder, often more complex
• Posy = smaller, simpler, sweet and compact

WHAT’S IN SEASON THIS WINTER?

One of the most sustainable choices we can make as florists is to work within the seasons.

Here in Victoria, winter offers a beautiful (and often underrated) range of floral materials that thrive in the colder months.

So, what’s blooming in winter? Look out for:
• Hellebores – moody, elegant and long-lasting
• Tulips – grown locally in abundance and with incredible colour options
• Jonquils – with their fresh scent and cheerful faces
• Proteas & Banksias – hardy, striking and iconic to Australia
• Ranunculus – lush layers of delicate petals in vibrant and pastel hues
• Stocks – tall, fragrant spikes that bring romance and softness to any arrangement
• Anemones – striking dark centres and elegant petals, perfect for contrast and movement
• Ornamental Kale – bold, leafy rosettes that bring a sculptural and unexpected twist to winter arrangements

Embracing seasonal, locally grown flowers not only ensures freshness but also supports our local growers and reduces environmental impact.

Colour plays a huge role in floristry. Whether you choose complementary colours that create contrast, analogous shades for harmony, or monochromatic tones for simplicity, colour theory helps guide your design choices.

Experimenting with different colour combinations can elevate the mood of your arrangement. Use bold colours to make a statement or soft tones for a more delicate, tranquil feel.

Colour Theory, the use of the colour wheel and colour schemes are taught in depth in our Complete Floristry Course. It’s an essential floristry design principle.
