Moonta Area School has a School Closure Day Term 1 Week 5, Friday the 27th of February.
Join us at Moonta Area School OSHC whilst we relax in our PJ’s and enjoy a movie!
We are open from 6:45am until 6:00pm. Please bring your own lunch and we will provide a snack.

Moonta OSHC will be open on MAS Sports Day, Thursday 26 February.
Our session times for the day will be:
- Morning: 6:45am – 11:45am
- Afternoon: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Please note that OSHC will be closed between 11:45am and 3:00pm.

Moonta Area School OSHC is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified educators who are keen to join our wonderful team.

If you are studying towards a tertiary degree in the education field, or have completed or are working towards Certificate IV Qualification in Education Support or Diploma in Children’s Services Education and Care or similar, we would love to hear from you.

Positions available are on a casual basis and between the hours of 6.45am – 9am and 3.00 – 6.00pm on weekdays during the school term, and 6.45am – 6pm during school vacation time.

Moonta OSHC Closure – Australia Day Public Holiday
Dear Families,
Please be advised that Moonta OSHC will be closed on the public holiday, Monday 26 January (Australia Day)
OSHC will recommence on Tuesday 27 January, operating Before School Care and After School Care as usual.
Just a reminder to please make your Term 1 bookings as soon as possible.

We hope all families have had a Merry Christmas and a beautiful start to the year! 🎄✨Moonta OSHC is excited to be back on campus from 6:45am tomorrow morning.

It looks like a HOT week ahead, and unfortunately this means a few changes to our program.

🌿 Excursion update
Our excursion to Moonta Mines Thursday 8th has been cancelled due to the forecast heat. As an alternative, children will enjoy a Cornish-themed day, including cooking traditional Cornish pasties and barley bread.

💦 Water play update
All daily water play activities have been cancelled. We will still have our programmed water play day on Monday 5th, however it will only run while the UV is under 10. We’ve also planned extra activities to enjoy in the cool air-conditioning.

🧢 What to bring each day
With the extreme heat, please ensure your child arrives with a named water bottle and their own hat. For sun safety, children cannot participate in outdoor play without a hat. We are currently low on spare OSHC hats, as some appear to have been taken home. If your child has a green OSHC hat at home, we’d really appreciate it if you could please wash it and return it to OSHC.

🧴 Sunscreen
We provide SPF 50 sunscreen, however it is not a sensitive skin sunscreen. If your child requires a specific sunscreen, please pack it in their bag each day.

🔥 Catastrophic day procedure
With the predicted weather, there is the potential for a catastrophic fire danger day. Staff will monitor the rating daily, and if the following day is classed as catastrophic, we will notify all families by 6:00pm the night before if OSHC will be closed.

We’ve had an absolute blast so far at Moonta OSHC this week! 🎄

The kids have loved our themed days so far – Christmas crafts, karaoke, and baking. We can’t wait to see what they get up to in the second half of the week with Christmas STEM and a movie day!
We’ve also been blessed with beautiful weather and have made the most of it, offering water play each morning ☀️

This week’s program was designed to meet a range of EYLF and MTOP outcomes. We’ve explored wellbeing, cooking, construction, creative arts, outdoor play, science, fine motor skills, and language. Varied play-based experiences are important as they support whole-child development by building skills across physical, cognitive, social and communication domains, while also strengthening executive functioning (like planning, problem-solving and self-regulation) through hands-on, real-world tasks.

Moonta OSHC is closing from Saturday 22nd December 2025 until Sunday 4th January 2026; re opening Monday 5th January 2026. If you require care during our January Vacation Care period, please contact us on 0439 817 475. Please note we are very limited with availability and already fully booked on some dates.
