Last Friday night we were back at Wrest Point for the Tasmanian Training Awards ✨

Twelve months ago Steve stood on that stage as Tasmania's VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year, and SCALA was named Small Training Provider of the Year before going on to take bronze at the national awards in Darwin. This year Steve was back on the same stage in a different role, presenting the Trainer of the Year award and helping host the evening.

SCALA goes into the awards every second year, so we were in the audience this time. That turns out to be a lovely place to sit. You notice the nerves at the tables, and the people who came along to sit beside someone on their big night.

Congratulations to TasNetworks, named Small Training Provider of the Year.
We work with TasNetworks in other parts of the organisation, so it was a pleasure to be in the room and watch them recognised.

The past year has also reshaped Steve's own work. Trainer of the Year opened doors to keynote work well beyond Tasmania, and he now spends a solid part of the year in front of national audiences on AI and leadership. Representing this state in those rooms is something we are proud of.

Congratulations to all 13 winners and to every single one of the 67 finalists! 💛

Good facilitation is easy to spot once you know what you're looking for 🎤

Meetings that finish on time with actual decisions made. The quieter people in the room contributing something useful. Discussions that stay on track without anyone having to take control.

That's a skill, and it can be learnt.

The Confident Facilitator is a practical full-day workshop delivered by SCALA in partnership with the Tasmanian Training Consortium (TTC), facilitated by SCALA's Steve Wiggers, Tasmania's Trainer of the Year.

This workshop suits anyone who leads meetings, runs group discussions, delivers presentations, or would like to feel steadier standing in front of a room.

There are two more chances to take part this year.

📍 Hobart | 5 November
📍 Hobart | 1 December

Bookings are through TTC.

Final call for our Management Accelerator September group ✨

A lot of people step into leadership because they were good at the job, then they find that leading a team asks for a different set of skills entirely.

That's what the SCALA Management Accelerator is built for.

It's a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, delivered in small groups with coaching along the way. Participants work on the practical side of leading. Delegating properly. Having the conversations they've been avoiding. Planning operations. Developing their people, not just supervising their tasks.

And because it runs alongside their actual role, what they learn in the room gets tested at work the next day.

📍 Launceston kicks off this month, with a few places left
📍 Hobart follows in October

These are our final two groups for the 2026 year.

And here we see it… in its natural habitat.

The elusive SCALA bus.

Usually spotted roaming the streets of Tasmania, quietly spreading messages of leadership, learning and professional development.

Sightings are rare.

Approach with caution.
It may inspire you to enrol in a qualification, develop your leadership skills… or make an unexpected career decision. 😂

Today, we managed to capture this magnificent creature in the wild.

A couple of months ago we shared that Sammy took part in her first Mentor Walk in Hobart. She loved the experience so much that last Friday, she headed back for another!

Mentor Walks provides a pretty special way to make time to step outside the day-to-day, meet new people and hear different perspectives. It's such a great opportunity to connect with other women in Hobart’s professional community, share experiences and come away with some fresh thinking.

Thanks again to Mentor Walks for another fabulous morning. We have a feeling this won’t be Sammy’s last! 💛

We love seeing the walls at the end of a SCALA workshop filled with post-it notes like this! These are participants' thoughts and intentions to take away and put into practice.

Being more patient. Having clearer conversations. Understanding what their people need rather than assuming. Delegating more. Developing people, not just their skills. And one of our favourites… have more fun! 🙌

This is what we want learning to look like. People reflecting on their own leadership, identifying what they can do differently, and leaving with something practical to take straight back into the workplace.

💛 We loved seeing Eliza share her achievement on LinkedIn, and hearing a little more about her experience made it even more special.

When Sammy caught up with Eliza, she spoke so warmly about working with our very own Adrian “Patchy” Patch. She shared how Adrian adapted the training around the realities of her busy role as an Employment Coach, taking an individual approach and working at a pace that reduced her anxiety. This helped Eliza build confidence and belief in herself, so much so that she has been able to step up into a Team Leader role. 🙌

A shout out to Patchy for doing what he does so well, and a very big congratulations to Eliza!!

🎨 SCALA goes to the gallery!

Yesterday, Sammy and KL had the pleasure of attending Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Goes to the Gallery at Hadley's Orient Hotel.

A beautiful venue, a stunning exhibition and, best of all, the opportunity to meet and connect with some wonderful Tasmanian business owners.

Huge thanks to TCCI and Hadley’s for a wonderful evening of art, business and connection. ✨

🎤 Want to become a more confident facilitator?

Our Confident Facilitator program is heading back to Launceston on Thursday, 3 September, delivered in partnership with the Tasmanian Training Consortium (TTC).

This practical, full-day workshop is for anyone who leads meetings, facilitates group discussions, delivers presentations or simply wants to become more confident engaging and guiding a group. Facilitation isn't just about standing at the front of a room. These skills can make everyday meetings and conversations more productive and engaging too.

Facilitated by SCALA's Steve Wiggers, Tasmania's Trainer of the Year, you'll explore practical techniques to:

✨ Structure sessions that are clear, engaging and memorable
✨ Manage group dynamics and energy
✨ Encourage participation and meaningful discussion
✨ Navigate common facilitation challenges with confidence

Bookings are through the Tasmanian Training Consortium. Head to https://www.ttc.tas.gov.au/courses/full-range-of-courses/communication_and_engagement/the-confident-facilitator for session details and registration.
