I’m Tomo, a Japanese chef living on the Sunshine Coast 🇯🇵

15 years ago, I came to Australia speaking almost no English.
Cooking became my way to connect with people — and now I run fun Japanese cooking experiences around the Sunshine Coast 😊

People often come for the food… but usually leave with new friends.

This Wednesday, 3rd June from 3pm, I’m running a small Japanese Ramen Cooking Class at Heads of Noosa Brewery 🍜🍻

It’s a weekday afternoon class, so it will be a relaxed and intimate session — limited to only 8 people.

We’ll make Japanese ramen together, enjoy my hearty bone broth soup, and share a fun afternoon around food, conversation and connection.

A welcome drink is also included.

There are still a few spots available, so if you’re interested, please send me a message or comment below 😊

You’re very welcome to come by yourself too.

🌿 Four-Step Wellness Digestive Journey – Step 3 & 4 🌿
What an amazing evening in Buderim!

This class brought together 7 participants from 7 different countries:
🇦🇺 Australia
🇳🇿 New Zealand
🇮🇳 India
🇨🇦 Canada
🇦🇷 Argentina
🇯🇵 Japan
🇺🇸 USA

The theme for the evening was:
✨ Heal Your Gut System
✨ Re-Inoculate Your Microbiome
It became such a fun, meaningful and inspiring session, with everyone sharing their own experiences, asking thoughtful questions, and learning from each other.

One of the questions that sparked a great discussion was about collagen. We talked about the different types of collagen in the body, and how my bone broth, made with a variety of collagen-rich ingredients, can help provide a wide range of collagen support for gut health, joints, skin and overall wellbeing.

Of course, we also enjoyed a delicious Japanese wellness meal together, turning nutrition theory into something practical, social and enjoyable.
Moments like this remind me that food is much more than nutrition — it creates connection, conversation and community.

Thank you everyone for making it such a warm, fun and memorable evening.
Hearty, Healthy and Having Fun

Tourism Noosa Networking Night at Sabrosa Dim Sum 🥟✨
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Tourism Noosa Networking Night at Dim Sum in Noosa Junction.
It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with passionate people from across the Noosa business and tourism community.
I was especially delighted to meet Jason Avery-Rossi from , one of Noosa's premier arts and cultural festivals, as well as Francene from .

As someone who believes that food connects people, evenings like this remind me how valuable face-to-face conversations are in building genuine relationships and future collaborations.

Learning more about noosa_alive was particularly inspiring. It would be wonderful to explore opportunities to be involved in the festival next year and share Japanese food, culture, and interactive culinary experiences with the Noosa community.
A big thank you to Tourism Noosa for bringing everyone together and to Sabrosa Dim Sum for the wonderful food and hospitality.

Looking forward to seeing where these new connections lead.

🥟 Food connects people.
🌏 Cooking connects cultures.

Yesterday’s Yakitori BBQ class was such a beautiful reminder of why I started doing this 😊🔥

A few days ago, I made a simple post in a Sunshine Coast community group… and honestly, I was blown away by the response. So many kind comments, messages, shares, and support from local people 🙏

15 years ago, I came to Australia speaking almost no English. Back then, I never imagined cooking would become a way to connect with so many wonderful people.
And then last night happened 😊

People arrived as strangers… but after lighting the charcoal, grilling yakitori together, sharing food, stories, laughs, and a few smoky moments 😂 the whole atmosphere changed.
This is the part I love most. Not just cooking. The feeling around the table.

Thank you again to everyone supporting local small business and my Japanese cooking journey here on the Sunshine Coast 🙏🇯🇵
Here are a few moments from last night’s class 😊🔥

What an incredible New Zealand journey 🇳🇿✨

Over the past 11 days, I travelled through Auckland, Taupō, and Christchurch, attending BNI meetings, the BNI International Conference, visiting wineries, meeting local businesses, and exploring future collaboration opportunities.

One of the biggest highlights was hosting my very first Gyoza Cooking Class in New Zealand at a local café in Christchurch area.

What started as a casual conversation suddenly became a real cooking event only a few days later — and 11 people joined the class 😃🥟
This trip reminded me again that food is much more than just eating.

Cooking creates connection, conversation, laughter, teamwork, and cultural exchange.

I’m very excited about the future possibilities of: ✨ Team Building Japanese Cooking Experiences
✨ Wellness & Bone Broth Cooking Classes
✨ Wine Pairing Events
✨ Private Chef Experiences
✨ Japan & NZ cultural collaborations

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed and supported me throughout this amazing journey.
I’m now flying back home to the Sunshine Coast, Australia, already excited for my next NZ visit ❤️🇳🇿🇦🇺
Cooking connects people.

Something truly special happened in Rangiora, New Zealand 🇳🇿🥟

This trip to New Zealand was originally about meeting people, exploring wineries, retreats, and discovering future collaboration opportunities.

I never imagined I would actually run a cooking class here.

But thanks to Elisa from Fools of Desire Café, everything suddenly changed.

“Why don’t we just do a cooking class while you’re here?”

Only 4 days later, we somehow created my first ever Gyoza Cooking Class in New Zealand.

With almost no proper setup or equipment, 11 wonderful people still came together to share food, stories, laughter, and connection.

Watching everyone making gyoza together reminded me again why I do this.

Cooking is not only about food. It creates friendship, conversation, memories, and community.

Thank you Elisa and everyone who became part of this beautiful experience 🙏✨

Well… this happened 😆🥟🇳🇿

I came to New Zealand mainly to meet people, explore collaborations, wineries, retreats, and future Japanese cooking experiences.

Then suddenly Elisa from said: “If you’re here already… let’s do a gyoza class!”

Only FOUR days later… 11 people joined my very first Gyoza Cooking Class in New Zealand ✨

Very limited equipment. Very little preparation. But SO much kindness, laughter, and beautiful energy.

Everyone folded gyoza together like we had known each other for years 😊

Cooking really connects people beyond language and culture.

Huge thanks to Elisa and everyone who joined this little miracle in Rangiora 🙏

This is definitely one of the most unforgettable moments of my NZ trip 🇳🇿✨

Visited
in Waipara Valley, introduced by Donna 🍷✨
Kirk and Alison started this winery from scratch in 2003, and Alison explained so many things to me about their history, wine, and beautiful family story.
She was such a lovely and kind person, and I really appreciated her warm hospitality.
And such a funny coincidence… their son’s name is Tomo too! He studied Japanese and even stayed in Japan before. What a beautiful connection 🇯🇵🇳🇿

From this special meeting, an exciting collaboration idea was born for my next NZ trip:
🥟 Three unique NZ-inspired gyoza
🍷 Wine pairing with Georges Road Wines
🌿 A beautiful winery experience in Waipara

They also have a beautiful private wine pod accommodation surrounded by vineyards and nature — perfect for couples to enjoy sunset, wine, and a sky full of stars ✨
Cooking connects people.
Wine connects stories.
And beautiful people create beautiful opportunities.

One of the most beautiful parts of this Taupō visit has been the people.

Deiryn from Confinement Escape Rooms - Taupo has so many wonderful connections and shared so many great ideas with me.

Even though it was our first time meeting, she was incredibly friendly, kind and generous with her time. We were able to talk openly and explore many possibilities together.

I also had the pleasure of meeting John and Caroline from Centennial House Taupo. They are such lovely, warm and helpful people.

What touched me most was the feeling of the Taupō community — people genuinely helping each other, introducing each other, and thinking about how we can create something meaningful together.

This is my first time visiting Taupō, but I already feel something very special here.

Beautiful nature.
A peaceful environment.
Warm people.
And so many possibilities.

I’m very grateful for these new connections and excited to see what may grow from them in the future.

Thank you so much, Deiryn, John and Caroline.

Food connects people — and this trip has reminded me again how true that is.
