It is with great sadness that we inform our College Community of the previous Principal, Allan Robinson’s passing.
Allan was an experienced and passionate English Teacher who committed 50 of his years to government education. He was recognised by the Department of Education for his service in 2019.
Starting his career at Broadmeadows Secondary College in 1973, Allan has worked with some of the most disadvantaged students and watched them grow and succeed. Allan was a skilled basketball player and valued the positive impact sport could have on students, founding the Broady Tech Basketball Club. It was through this commitment to education and love of basketball that he has made a difference in the lives of so many.
Allan continued his career at Craigieburn Secondary College before joining Montmorency Secondary College in 1993. It was here that he grew in his career and further love of Basketball flourished. Coaching teams and students, teaching English, then Assistant Principal and eventually Principal in 2011.
Allan committed his life to public education and was a huge advocate for the College. He recognised that our students deserved the best facilities to learn in and played a pivotal role in the school redevelopment in 2018, the construction of Stadium 2 in 2008 and then the Allan Robinson Courts in 2022. In 2024, he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal on the Australia Day Honours List.
Allan’s wife, children, and grandchildren played a huge role in his life. They have been supportive and inspirational to him in his work as a teacher, and as a Principal. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Pam, his wife, his children Shane, Jess and Tanya, and grandchildren.

With immense pride, Montmorency Secondary College wholeheartedly congratulates former Principal, Mr. Allan Robinson, on receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day 2024 Honours List.
This prestigious award reflects Allan's exceptional service to secondary education, encompassing a remarkable career with the Victorian Department of Education spanning over 50 years. Allan commenced his teaching journey at Broadmeadows Technical School, where he devoted 16 years. It was classified as a highly disadvantaged school at the time, and one which Allan believes enabled him to really develop his teaching skills. He learnt how to gain students acceptance and respect and carried those skills forward throughout his career. It was also in a time of corporal punishment (which was later abolished in 1983), and Allan rebelled against what he thought was a brutal and barbaric practice and refused to use it. Allan is also passionate about basketball, and during this time he and his wife, Pam, established the Broady Tech Basketball Club, providing students with a focus beyond school and coaching multiple basketball teams in the Victorian Junior Basketball Championships.
After a four-year stint at Craigieburn Technical School, Allan joined Montmorency Secondary College, where his dedication and wisdom greatly influenced the College over his tenure. Starting as a classroom teacher, Allan progressed through leadership roles, culminating in an 11-year term as our respected Principal.
An experienced English and History teacher, Allan took pride in his students' achievements, including those in VCE English. Recognizing his moral purpose as a teacher and later as a Principal, Allan worked tirelessly to achieve the best possible learning outcomes for all students. He considered it a privilege to shape the learning and future opportunities for young Victorians, fostering positive and lifelong relationships.
Allan's was a great advocate for the College, recognising that our students deserved high quality facilities. He played a pivotal role in advocating for funding and overseeing the $14m redevelopment and refurbishment of the College in 2018, along with the construction of state-of-the-art basketball facilities with Stadium Two (constructed in 2008) and Stadium One (constructed in 2022). The Basketball Courts of Stadium One were named in his honour as a recognition of his contributions.
We are sure that a multitude of former students would celebrate this award with Allan, acknowledging the wisdom and guidance he provided over the years. Allan cultivated a culture at the College that empowered us to nurture outstanding young citizens. He has been a pillar of support for our staff and students during times of both need and celebration.
Beyond education, Allan has a passion for basketball, coaching successful teams and contributing to community sport, including the Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club.
Allan’s wife, children and grandchildren have played a huge role in his life. They have been supportive and inspirational to him in his work as a teacher, and as a Principal, and have been with him every step of the way on his journey.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Allan, and to his family, for receiving this tremendous accolade and express our profound gratitude for all he has done for our students, staff, and community.
