We miss you when you're not here!

Importance of YG

Yarning Group is an important part of the Monbulk College day. It provides students with regular opportunities to build connections with their peers and a trusted staff member, develop a sense of belonging, celebrate success and engage with our SWPBS values of Respect, Excellence and Responsibility. Feedback from our student surveys and forums tells us that YG is making a positive difference. These connections are built through small, regular moments over time, which is why consistent attendance matters. Students who are frequently absent from YG can miss valuable opportunities to connect, participate and feel part of their group. YG is an ongoing and important part of the Monbulk College program, and attendance is expected in the same way as any other scheduled class. YG attendance contributes to a student's overall attendance, including the attendance expectations that apply to VCE students. Our priority will always be to encourage, support and positively reinforce attendance. Where a student is regularly absent or chooses not to attend YG without an appropriate reason, the College will follow up with the student and family. Continued truancy may result in appropriate consequences, including lunchtime or after school community service. We ask families to support us by reinforcing the importance of attending YG. Connection and belonging don't happen in one big moment. They grow through consistently showing up, participating and being part of the group.

Premier's Award - VCD

Lily Coxhead received with a Premier’s VCE Award for Visual Communication Design (VCD). This prestigious award recognises outstanding achievement at the highest level of VCE study in Victoria. It is a testament to Lily’s exceptional creativity, dedication, design thinking and commitment to excellence throughout her VCE journey.
This incredible effort was achieved by an outstanding study score of 50 in VCD, reflecting exceptional results across her SATs, SACs and VCE examination.
Lily’s SAT reflected her love of fashion with a focus on creating a sustainable fashion label aiming to reduce textile waste, addressing environmental issues and juxtaposing in a playful communication.
Congratulations to Lily and all of the brilliant teachers at Monbulk!

Diabetes Awareness

Bring a gold coin tomorrow (Tuesday 25th) at lunchtime and guess the jelly beans in the jar to raise funds for a Diabetes ward at Knox Private Hospital!

NAIDOC WEEK
Monbulk College celebrated NAIDOC week though numerous activities and discussions. Students in year 7 helped to shape Bunjil the Eagle through features in the colours of the indigenous flag and collaborated to draw illustrations inspired by indigenous artwork. The eagles head was drawn by our own Darcie Croaker

Sustainability Group Update

Hi all,

The sustainability group has placed some white bucket around the college for you to put your recycling bottles. Please only put cans or bottles in them.

We have so far raised over 200 dollars that has gone to the SWPBS Shop and to buying some furniture for the Senior Centre.

Each week we are getting roughly $40 dollars from the cans collected at the school. This money will go into getting more prizes for the SWBPS.

If you have any other ideas for the money to go, that can benefit the college please let the Sustainability Group know.

Thank you to any students and parents who have dropped any cans off at the college. There is know a permanent bin at gym for donations.

Year 12 Psychology Sleep Excursion

In Week 3 of Term 3, the Year 12 Psychology students embarked on a journey to the Monash Sleep Clinic in Notting Hill to learn a little more about the nature of sleep and how it is researched! We got to hear from the sleep scientists themselves, who also gave one lucky student a chance to sleep, whilst the rest of the class analysed changes in their physiological activity. It was a great way to strengthen our understanding of our current unit on sleep and its importance for wellbeing!

7E in Ceramics

7E have come to the Ceramics class this semester and have hit the ground running! I look forward to taking this class so much - they are a joy to teach and as you can see - the work they are producing is just incredible!
Our creative future is in safe hands! Well done 7E - great stuff!
