This week kicks off our Sustainability Program with the centre collecting recyclable materials. Families are invited to bring in their unwanted cardboard boxes, bottle caps, old magazines and cardboard tubes and then watch as the children transform the recycled materials into other things.

🌱 Growing and Learning with Our Grass Heads 🌱
In our Kangaroo Room the children have been engaged in a hands-on planting experience as they created their very own “grass heads.” Using cups filled with soil, the children carefully sprinkled grass seeds on top and gently watered them. There was great excitement as they explored the textures of the soil and seeds, with many children eagerly discussing what they thought would happen next.
Over the following days, the children showed wonderful curiosity and patience as they observed the changes in their cups. Conversations emerged about what plants need to grow, such as water, sunlight, and care.
As the grass grew taller, the children were excited to take the next step—giving their grass a “haircut”! Using child-safe scissors, they carefully trimmed the grass, demonstrating growing confidence in their fine motor skills and coordination. Many children laughed as they styled their grass in different ways, showing creativity and a sense of ownership over their project.

This experience supported the children in:
Developing an understanding of nature and living things
Practising patience and responsibility through daily care
Strengthening fine motor skills through cutting and handling materials

It has been wonderful to see the children take pride in nurturing their plants and celebrating each stage of growth.

Emu Room Learning Experience – Reconciliation Week.

This week, the children in the Emu Room have been thoughtfully recognising National Reconciliation Week through a creative and meaningful experience—creating their own Rainbow Serpent.
The children began by using clay to carefully shape and form their serpent, engaging their imagination and fine motor skills. Once the clay had dried, they explored painting techniques, using cotton buds to apply vibrant colours and patterns. This process encouraged patience, creativity, and a sense of pride as the children watched their artwork come to life.

Through this experience, the children were introduced to the Rainbow Serpent, an important symbol in Aboriginal culture, supporting their growing awareness and respect for Australia’s First Nations Peoples and their rich cultural stories.

The 2026 theme for National Reconciliation Week, “All In,” reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility. It encourages everyone to actively contribute towards building respectful relationships and understanding. In the Emu Room, we embrace this message by creating opportunities for children to learn about, connect with, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in meaningful ways.

We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm, creativity, and respect shown throughout this experience.
