Engineering in action!

Today, our Year 11 Engineering Studies students conducted tensile testing to develop mathematical stress–strain profiles for a range of materials, including elastic bands.

By measuring how materials respond to applied forces, students gained hands-on experience with the same testing principles used by engineers and manufacturers to assess material properties and performance in real-world applications.

A fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with industry practice and engineering innovation.

Strength, speed and science in action!

Our Year 12 Health and Movement Science students participated in an immersive performance experience day, bringing ‘Training for Improved Performance’ to life through real-world application.

Students visited Play Performance’s Athlete Performance Facility in Brookvale, where they applied themselves to a range of sport science testing stations including force plate analysis, speed and agility assessments, strength testing and hamstring screening. The day also included interactive data analysis sessions and a high-performance workshop exploring recovery strategies, sports nutrition and the physiological principles behind strength and conditioning.
As part of the experience, every student will receive an individualised performance profile and report tailored to a sport of their choice, complete with insights and recommendations to help improve performance.

This unique experience provided students with valuable insight into athlete development and demonstrates how performance data is used to enhance training outcomes and reduce injury risk.

Where are they now?

Pittwater High School graduate Cohen, now studying Medicine, reflects on the skills that have helped shape his success

"Pittwater High School taught me to manage a heavy workload, think critically, and stay motivated - skills that now help me balance med school and life."

We are proud to see our alumni achieving their goals and making a difference in their chosen fields. Cohen’s journey is a reminder that the skills developed at school can open doors to exciting opportunities beyond the classroom.

Year 11 Advanced English have been immersed in Sylvia Plath’s poetry as part of their Critical Study of Literature unit. After closely reading and annotating her poems, students have come together to discuss, brainstorm, and share their key insights, building rich conceptual links across Plath’s work.

In recent lessons, they have been exploring the key universal and timeless themes present in Plath’s poetry and synthesising these ideas with carefully selected textual evidence through conceptual mind-maps and engaging in Harkness discussions. It’s been fantastic to see them sharing interpretations, comparing annotations, and collaborating to deepen their understanding of Plath's poetry.

Through these discussions, students are developing their personal voice, strengthening their critical thinking, and engaging thoughtfully with Plath’s enduring value. A real highlight has been watching them support one another in shaping more nuanced and insightful readings of the texts.
