You can support your child experiencing these big feelings through co-regulation. Co-regulation is defined as warm and responsive interactions that provide the support, coaching, and modeling children need to “understand, express, and modulate their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors” (Murray,2015)

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures

As parents and carers of Autistic children we spend so much time worrying. We spend so much time advocating, attending meetings and therapy appointments. Don’t forget to schedule in some self care where you can. A hot bath, a cool swim, a glass of wine, a walk on the beach, or a call to a friend. Try once in the next week to do something for you!

Sensory items and fidget items belong in hands not boxes. Imagine being told by your boss at work you can only have your sensory item between 10:30am - 10:45am as per the schedule. What if the person next to you is talking so loud and the 3pm slump has hit, the headache is building and you can’t concentrate because they are so loud. However you’re not allowed your AirPods to drown their voice out so you can be your most productive self and concentrate on your work because you already had your sensory time at 10:30am as per the schedule and now you need to wait until you finish your work to earn your sensory box. Madness! But we see this so often. Sensory time scheduled in. People needing to earn their sensory supports. You would never allow a child with a vision impairment to only have their glasses for certain times of the day. They have them as needed. Sensory supports should be available 24/7.
