What I wish someone had told me when my little ones were starting daycare.
✨Your little one is going to get sick. Constantly.
✨When you're at the right centre with the right educators, you won't feel constantly anxious about taking them there.
✨The right educators genuinely care about your kiddo.
✨You can enjoy your time back at work while they're at daycare + still miss them like crazy, wishing you were home with them.
✨You're going to take more carers/sick leave than you thought possible.
✨They might bring the sickness home to you, so you, your partner, + other siblings are going to get sick too. Constantly.
✨If you're toilet training at daycare, pack lots + lots of spare clothes.
✨You might feel a lot of guilt. Guilt that you're taking them in the first place instead of being home with them. Guilt that you're taking more sick leave at work than ever before. Guilt that you feel annoyed that they're sick constantly [not annoyed at them, but at the situation]. Guilt that as soon as the phone rings during work hours, you dread looking at it in case it's daycare calling for another sick pickup.
✨The feeling in your gut that tells you if it's the right centre for your bub is usually right.
✨Don't send bub in their best clothes; they're probably going to get covered in paint + dirt.
✨It's not about how they act when you drop them off because most kiddos will cry at one stage or another; it's about how happy/ settled they are when you pick them up.
✨It does get easier.
✨One day, you're going to walk through the door before they've noticed you're there, and you're going to see them playing with their friends, doing a new skill they've learnt at daycare, making something or having a great big belly laugh, and you're probably going to get some watery eyes. Not because you're sad, but because your heart is bursting with pride at the little person your bub is blossoming into.
