Moggill State School The focus at Moggill State School is always around improvement and 'doing and being our best'. The original Moggill State School opened on 12 February, 1866.

Moggill State School has an excellent record of achievements in the academic, musical and sporting areas. The current student enrolment is 763, with students from Prep to Year 6. Our community prides itself on our strong school culture, which provides students with a safe, caring and supportive environment, where students are provided with the best opportunity to learn and be their best. HATS ATOP OUR PRIORITIES

Whilst we know it is a year-round requirement, as we prepare to enter the warmest time of the year, it is a good opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of students having, and wearing, their hats at school every day.

Whether students intend to choose an undercover or indoor playtime option, we require all students to have their hats with them and on their heads during eating time and as their ‘entry ticket’ to our outdoor play spaces.

The chance to play and participate in our active learning experiences is important as part of a balanced school day experience and a setting for so many prosocial learning experiences.

Thank you for your support in ensuring your children have hats, labelled with their name, and packed in bags or atop heads as they arrive at school every day!

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOCUS: TERM 4, WEEK 1

As we head into Term 4, our Positive Behaviour focus will be "Be Safe – We Are SunSMART." With warmer weather and higher UV levels across Queensland, it is important that we all take responsibility for protecting ourselves from the sun while enjoying outdoor learning and play.

Students will be learning about the SunSmart Safety Team, also known as the 5 S's of Sun Safety. Just like any great team, each strategy works best when they work together:

• Slip on sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
• Slop on SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen before heading outdoors and reapply regularly.
• Slap on a broad-brimmed, bucket, or legionnaire hat to protect your face, ears, and neck.
• Seek shade whenever possible, especially during peak UV times.
• Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian UV protection standards.

Students are encouraged to:

• Wear their school hat whenever they are outside.
• Apply sunscreen before school and bring sunscreen for reapplication if needed.
• Use shaded areas during breaks.
• Follow teacher reminders about sun safety.

By practising these simple SunSmart habits every day, students help keep themselves and others safe while enjoying all the exciting activities that Term 4 brings. We encourage families to support these messages at home so that together we can build lifelong sun-safe behaviours.

Remember: Being SunSMART is an important way to "Be Safe" every day!

KEEP OUR SCHOOL SAFE THESE HOLIDAYS

As schools enter the September holiday break, School Watch encourages everyone to help protect our local schools and keep them safe for students and staff.

Schools can be vulnerable to vandalism, theft, graffiti, and trespassing during holiday periods. Community members can play an important role by reporting any suspicious activity around school grounds.

If you see suspicious behaviour at a school, contact Police on 131 444, or call 000 if a crime is in progress or an emergency situation exists.

By working together, we can help ensure our schools remain safe, secure, and ready to welcome students back for Term 4.

JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY (PREP - YEAR 3)

What a wonderful way to finish the term with our Junior Cross Country.

Our Prep to Year 3 students laced up their running shoes and took part in our Junior Cross Country. It was fantastic to see so many students demonstrating determination, resilience and enthusiasm as they tackled the course and cheered on their peers.

A huge congratulations to all of our young runners for giving their best effort and showing great sportsmanship throughout the event. Thank you to our staff, volunteers and families who helped make the morning such a success and supported our students every step of the way.

YEAR 5 GOLD RUSH EXCURSION

Our Year 5 students recently travelled to Eureka Excursions for an exciting and immersive Gold Rush experience. Set in the bushland of South East Queensland, the excursion provided students with a unique opportunity to step back into 1854 and experience life on the Australian goldfields.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of hands-on activities that brought their History learning to life. Through role-plays, tent-making, mapping activities, and gold-seeking challenges, students explored the daily experiences of people living and working during the Gold Rush era. They became part of a simulated goldfield township, learning about the businesses, licences, and communities that developed during this significant period in Australian history.

The highlight for many students was searching for gold and experiencing the excitement and challenges faced by hopeful miners more than 170 years ago. The interactive nature of the program encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and active participation, making the learning both meaningful and memorable.

Our students represented the school exceptionally well throughout the day, demonstrating enthusiasm, respect, and a willingness to embrace every activity. We are proud of the way they engaged with the experience and supported one another.

We thank the staff at Eureka Excursions, as well as our teachers and parent volunteers, for helping make this wonderful educational opportunity possible. It was truly a day where our Year 5 students didn't just learn about history, they lived it!

MOGGILL MUSIC MANIA WORKSHOPS STRIKE THE RIGHT NOTE!

At the end of last term, our instrumental students were immersed in a day of music-making during the Moggill Music Mania Workshop. Held on Monday for Band students and Tuesday for Strings students, these full-day workshops provided a valuable opportunity for students to further develop their skills, build confidence, and prepare for their upcoming performances next term.

Throughout the workshops, students participated in rehearsals, sectional sessions, and collaborative ensemble work, allowing them to focus on both individual technique and group performance skills. The immersive format gave students extended time to refine challenging repertoire, strengthen their musicianship, and receive targeted guidance from their instrumental music teachers.

Beyond the musical benefits, the workshops also fostered teamwork, perseverance, and a shared passion for performance. Students embraced the challenge of a full day dedicated to their instruments, demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to push their skills to the next level.

These workshops play an important role in preparing our young musicians for the exciting performance opportunities ahead next term. We are incredibly proud of the dedication and effort shown by all participants and look forward to seeing the results of their hard work on stage.

A special thank you to our Instrumental Music staff for their expertise and support in delivering these enriching experiences for our students. We can't wait to hear our Band and Strings ensembles showcase all they have accomplished in the months ahead!

CHAPPY PANCAKE BREAKFAST IN PHOTOS

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Chappy Pancake Breakfast!

It was so lovely to see our Moggill families, students and staff enjoying breakfast together and starting the day with plenty of smiles, laughs and, of course, pancakes!

I also want to give a massive shout-out to my amazing pancake crew. Thank you for giving up your time, flipping pancakes, serving hungry tummies, setting up, packing down and doing all the little jobs that helped make the morning happen. I couldn’t do it without you!

And to everyone who came along, grabbed a plate and joined in, thank you for supporting our Chappy events. Your smiles, conversations and willingness to get involved are what make these mornings so special.

I hope you enjoyed the pancakes as much as I enjoyed seeing everyone together.
