Centre for Equine Experiential Learning

Centre for Equine Experiential Learning We train equine facilitators who want to work with horses to help humans resolve adverse experiences and reclaim their lives.

The Centre for Equine Experiential Learning (CEEL) facilitator training model can be distinguished from other approaches by it’s focus on coherence. Other modalities tend to focus on what is wrong or not working, and initiate certain interventions (often uninformed) while the client is in a state of dysregulation. In contrast, the aim of the CEEL model is to develop clients’ coherence and resilien

ce. Coherence is what allows the person to function effectively as a whole. Supporting clients to move toward coherence helps establish more stability and greater capacity to negotiate challenges. From this ‘resourced’ perspective, beneficial change, healing, insights, solutions and clarity arise organically. CEEL teaches participants to observe the physical and emotional states of their clients and employ a ‘shepherding style’ of facilitation that aligns them with their naturally occurring trend towards increased coherence and well-being – a true paradigm shift from conventional approaches. CEEL teaches how resolution and healing happens from the nervous system up and makes it possible to imagine freedom from discomfort, and for living an authentic, vibrant life in the here-and-now.

ANNOUNCING OUR UPCOMING TRAINING:

WORKING WITH GROUPS!

Advanced group facilitation requires more than a collection of activities — it requires nervous-system literacy, strong containment and ethical herd integration.

Our 5-day Working With Groups certificate training in April is designed for practitioners ready to lead with confidence in complex environments.

No prerequisite training required.

TRIPLE R RETREAT Saturday October 4

When we are feeling constantly exhausted, and no amount of rest, self-care or even having a holiday seems to be effective for long. This is because our nervous systems need to reset - a natural, organic process that refreshes the nervous system and brings it back 'online.'

A nervous system reset cannot be done on our own - we need other nervous systems to feel safe and held, so we can fully surrender.

Come to our Triple R mini retreat and be supported by the Free Rein herd, who create a coherent energy field, and profound feeling of acceptance and safety.

You will be guided to listen to your body and as it expresses its exhaustion and overwhelm, to fully release and surrender - to a sustainable feeling of being refreshed and ready.

Spaces are limited. Please contact us to register.

Sometimes I have to remind myself to practice what I preach! LOL!

Lately I have been feeling low in energy, exhausted, with non-local aches and pains. I went down the path of thinking I am missing some elusive nutrient…. until this morning.

I took myself through a process that I often guide clients through, and the shift was immediate!

If you are feeling exhausted, try this:

But first, here are some principles to remember:
• Everything is energy
• Pain is blocked energy
• Energy needs to move
• The mind can program the body
• The body does not know the difference between our imagination and what our minds think is reality
• When we shine the light of our consciousness onto energy, it changes

1. Sit upright in a chair, feet on the floor, arms resting on your lap or arms of the chair.

2. Feel into the feeling of exhaustion, or pain – without resistance, interpretation, or judgement

3. Imagine opening up portals on the bottom of your feet and in your fingertips, and create pathways for the energy to flow down and out. Just like unplugging a sink full of water – you don’t need to tell the water what to do – it will just flow. Energy works the same.

4. Stay present with the feeling of energy flowing. You might visual it having a colour or consistency (if it is moving too slow, widen the pathway), and notice tingling in your hands and/or feet – this is the energy passing through.

5. After a few moments you will begin to feel clearer and lighter.

6. Close the portals and take a few breaths.

For a deeper immersion into clearing energies of exhaustion, and the exquisite feeling of a complete nervous system reset come to our Triple R Retreat on Saturday October 4, 9:30am - 1:00pm.

It is a mini retreat, but has a long-lasting effect. Here is what a client just texted to me now after a session 2 weeks ago: " I have felt SO much better since our session… it was just what the universe ordered especially before all of the chaos of this eclipse season."

I love this work!

Yesterday I met with a new client – the second time she has come to see us. Here is a summary of our session:

Me: What would you like to have different in your life?

Client: I want to feel safe. I feel anxious most of the time.

Me: Can you tell me about a time when you didn’t feel safe?

Client: There are so many.

Me: That’s ok. Just pick one.

Client: When I was 5 and my father would come home.

Me: Can you recall a specific time that your father came home and you didn’t feel safe?

Client: My brother and I were in the lounge room and we were crouched down. (She physically crouched in her chair and put her hands in fists. I could see that her body was remembering the event so we did not have to go further into the story.)

Me: So Is there a part of you that feels the injustice of not feeling safe – all children have the right to feel safe.

Client: Nodded. Hands still in fists.

Me: Is there a gesture or movement, or something your body would have done or said if there were no consequences – and you are safe here to express that?

Client: Stood up, extended her arms to the sides with palms facing out, shoulders back and exclaimed, “GO AWAY.”

Me: Can you hold that stance and feel into it for a few moments.

Client: Smiled. I feel joy!

Me: Your body feels joy because it finally has a chance to execute a protective movement, that feels like a boundary has been restored.

Client: I feel safe and strong. I feel like I can take care of myself.

Me: Hold that posture until you feel finished.

Client: (Eventually sits down, takes an open relaxed posture, and looks around.)

Me: Looking around helps your body communicate to the brain that ‘the coast is clear’ and ‘it’s over.’

After several minutes of talking about the horses and generally settling her nervous system…

Me: Can you revisit that story and tell me what’s different now?

Client: (Smiled, and still with an open relaxed posture). I feel nothing. Like it’s just history.

Me: We still had plenty of time. Is there another time when you didn’t feel safe?

Client: (Laughed). I can’t crouch like I used to. My shoulders want to stay back!

Me: Crouching is a victim posture, whereas shoulders back suggests safety.

Client: Yes, I feel safe. I don’t think my shoulders have ever been back like this and felt so open.

Me: When we feel different, we are different.

Did you know there is a predictable sequence your nervous system has to complete to resolve almost every kind of trauma held in your body?

And when that sequence gets interrupted, your nervous system fails to complete - it doesn’t send a message to the brain that it’s over, that you’re safe, so the trauma stays trapped in your body.

Time and reasoning do not resolve trauma.

Trauma registers in the body and needs to be resolved in the body.

Our bodies always want to prevent harm or injury. When they are given a chance to execute a gesture or movement that only they know what that might be, the trauma can be resolved. The body feels empowered and safe again. Trauma is cleared from the body.

Trauma recovery happens when our bodies get to do what they know how to do.
