For nearly a decade, MAKS Ballet Studios has provided Canberra families with high-quality dance training in a nurturing and supportive environment.

But if you ask our students what makes MAKS special, the answer often comes back to one thing: the people.

For Rose, it's the teachers who make the difference.

‘A dance studio is only as good as its teachers. Everything else doesn't matter.’

Dance has also become a place where she can focus on what she loves most.

‘Dancing truly does make me feel free. The studio is the place where I can forget about all the outside worries and focus on the here and now. I love it and would not give it up for anything in the world!’

And her message to anyone considering MAKS?

‘Do it. It has changed my life in the best way possible.’

Founded on strong classical foundations and led by highly qualified teachers, MAKS Ballet Studios is committed to helping every student reach their potential.

For students like Olive, who has been dancing at MAKS for almost 11 years, that journey is about much more than learning steps.

‘I love the strong community present at MAKS; all the teachers are supportive and encouraging which allows all the students to push themselves and facilitates a caring environment where students can grow.’

One of Olive's favourite opportunities is assisting younger dancers and helping them develop their own skills and confidence.

‘I particularly love assisting younger classes and supporting their development in dance.’

At MAKS Ballet Studios, we encourage students to dream big while building the strong technical foundations needed to achieve their goals.

For Matilda, the opportunity to learn and be challenged is what she loves most.

‘I love being challenged and learning new steps and getting to do what I love every day, which is dance.’
Her teachers have also inspired her future ambitions.

‘My teachers know so much about ballet and dance. I love learning from them. When I grow up, I want to be a ballerina like Natalia Osipova and teach ballet like my teachers at MAKS.’

And perhaps the greatest reward of all?

‘My closest friends are my dance friends. Dancing gives me the confidence to be me.’

One of the things that makes MAKS unique is the sense of community within our studio.

For Emilia, that sense of belonging is what stands out most.

‘I love that there's such a community aspect. Everyone's working together to succeed at a common goal and it's a really nice environment to be in.’

‘Being in dance class makes me feel like I can detach myself from everything that's happening in the world and just focus on improving as a dancer.’
