Attention all ACT Security Licence holders

May 2026

New application process for Security Employee Licences

Dear Security Licensee,

We are writing to inform you of an important change to the application process for ACT Security Employee Licences and to encourage licence holders and applicants to prepare ahead of time.

New licensing system and transition period

From 11 May 2026, Security Employee Licences will be managed through a new system with a new online application process. This change supports ongoing work to modernise licensing services and update the administration process and system.

As part of the transition, Security Employee Licence applications are currently not being accepted to allow for the system upgrade. All Security Employee Licence applications will reopen on 11 May 2026 using the new application process.

Who is affected by this change?

This change applies to Security Employee Licence holders and applicants only. It does not apply to master, trainer and temporary licences, which will continue to be managed through the existing application methods.

Current Security Employee Licenses remain valid until its renewal date. No action is required unless you wish to make a variations or renewal. Licence holders are encouraged to prepare for future renewals by creating an ACT Digital Account now. Licence holders will need to link their existing licence to their Digital Account prior to renewing their licence.

New application process for Security Employee Licences

From 11 May 2026, all applications, renewals and variations for Security Employee Licences must be lodged online through the new application process.

When lodging an application, all applicants will be redirected to sign into an existing ACT Digital Account or create one using their first name, last name and email address.

Licence holders will need to link their existing licence to their ACT Digital Account prior to renewing their licence. Instructions on this will be available from 11 May 2026 on the Access Canberra website.

Please note: An ACT Digital Account can only be created for individuals. Companies, corporations, and associations cannot create accounts. Each person will need to create an individual ACT Digital Account to submit a security licence application. Visit the Access Canberra website for more information on ACT Digital Account.

We encourage stakeholders to share this information with staff and clients who may be affected, and to ensure they are prepared for future renewals under the new process.
