Our new addition to the playground which im sure will encourage the children to engage in imaginative and cooperative play. Cant wait to add some props over the weeks to come.

The importance of imaginative play in daycare

Imaginative play allows children to create their own stories, roles and experiences. A play boat can become a pirate ship, a rescue boat, a fishing vessel, or a boat travelling to an imaginary island.

Through this type of play, children develop:
💥Social skills – negotiating roles, sharing ideas, taking turns and cooperating with others.
💥Language and communication – talking about their adventures, creating stories and learning new vocabulary.
💥Creativity – using objects and spaces in different ways and developing their own ideas.
💥Problem-solving skills – deciding where the boat is going, how to work together and how to overcome challenges within their play.
💥Emotional development – exploring different feelings and experiences through pretend roles in a safe environment.
💥Confidence and independence – making choices and taking the lead in their own play.
💥Physical development – climbing, balancing, moving around the boat and engaging in active outdoor play.

Most importantly, imaginative play gives children the opportunity to lead their own learning.

A new play boat therefore becomes more than just playground equipment—it can be a rich learning environment where children explore, communicate, create and build relationships through play.

🚓 Meeting Our Local Police – Learning About Our Community

Today we had the exciting opportunity to welcome one police car and our local police officer to visit us as part of a larger group experience.

While family daycare provides children with the benefits of a small, calm and personalised environment, experiences such as this are an important reminder that children can also participate in large-group experiences that create the atmosphere, excitement and social opportunities often associated with a larger kindy setting.

Bringing several family daycare groups together allows the children to experience a larger community of peers, practise listening and participating within a bigger group, and develop confidence interacting with unfamiliar adults and children. It gives them the opportunity to experience both the intimacy of small-group learning and the richness of larger-group experiences.

The visit also provided an important opportunity to build positive relationships with our local police. Children were encouraged to see police officers as friendly, approachable and helpful members of our community, rather than people they should be frightened of. Meeting officers in a relaxed and positive environment helps children develop trust, confidence and an understanding of who they can turn to when they need help.

The children were able to see the police vehicles, ask questions and learn that police are there to keep people safe, help others and support our community.

EYLF Learning Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world:
Children develop an understanding of their role within their community and build positive relationships with community members. Through this experience, children developed familiarity with local police, strengthened their sense of belonging and began to understand the important role police play in keeping our community safe.

EYLF Learning Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners:
Children showed curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm as they explored the police vehicles, listened to information and participated in a larger-group experience.

This also makes a really strong point about the unique advantage of family daycare—small groups don’t mean children miss out on large-group experiences; they can have both, when we intentionally create opportunities for them.

It means alot being recognised for the care, love and dedication I put into the day care every day.

I am grateful to be able to support, nurture and watch all the children in my care grow and learn.

Today the children helped to set up our worm farm. The children were facinated by the wiggly worms, however preffered to watch them rather than hold them. Over the next week we will allow the worms to settle into their new environment before we start adding our food scraps.

This hands on experience encourages children to learn about recycling food waste, caring for living things and how worms help create nutrient rich compost for our gardens.

We took part in National Simultaneous story time last week. The story was Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller.

The children enjoyed both reading the book together and also listening in on the story being read online live at 12pm

We followed up by creating our own soccer field with all the animals from the story, playing soccer on our small world story set up on the table, we practiced our tracing skills and also learnt some soccer and ball skills outside in the playground
