🔬🌱 Science Week at Redfern Cottage! 🌱🔬

What an exciting week of discovery, curiosity and hands-on learning!

Throughout Science Week, our children became little scientists as they explored a variety of fun experiments and sensory experiences. From planting seeds and creating mini greenhouses to exploring colours, water, textures and cause-and-effect, every experience encouraged our children to investigate, explore and discover. 🧪🌈🌱

This year’s National Science Week theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All,” gave us a wonderful opportunity to spark curiosity and nurture a love of learning from an early age.
We loved seeing the children’s excitement as they experimented, made discoveries and learned through play. 💚

🌋 Exploring Volcanic Eruptions! 🌋

This week, our young learners have been showing a wonderful interest in volcanoes and volcanic eruptions! 🔬✨

Following their curiosity, the children worked together to create their very own volcano using sand. With guidance from their educators, they explored a fun eruption experiment using baking soda, vinegar and food colouring, carefully adding the ingredients with droppers and watching with excitement as their volcano began to bubble and erupt! 🌋🫧

This hands-on experience encouraged the children to observe, predict, explore cause and effect, and develop their curiosity about science.

To extend their learning, the children then used their creativity to create their own volcano paintings, expressing what they had discovered through art. 🎨❤️

We love turning our children’s interests into meaningful learning experiences!

🦷 Dental Health Week at Redfern Cottage! 🦷

Last week, our children have been learning all about the importance of looking after their teeth through a range of fun, hands-on experiences! From brushing activities and counting teeth to cleaning away "germs" and creative craft experiences, the children explored healthy dental habits while developing their fine motor skills, problem-solving, and confidence.

By making learning fun and interactive, we're helping children build healthy habits that can last a lifetime. We loved seeing their excitement as they practised brushing techniques, counted teeth, and cared for their toy friends' smiles!

🚒 Firefighters Visit at Redfern Cottage Early Learning Centre 🚒

What an exciting day we had as our wonderful local firefighters from St Andrew visited Redfern Cottage!

The visit began with an engaging discussion about fire safety, where the children learned important safety precautions, what firefighters do to help our community, and how to stay safe in an emergency. They were encouraged to ask questions and discover that firefighters are friendly community helpers who are always there to keep us safe.

Afterwards, the children had the opportunity to use the fire hose, explore the different parts of the fire truck, and see the special equipment firefighters use every day. It was a fun, hands-on experience that sparked curiosity, confidence, and plenty of smiles!

Experiences like these help children build strong connections with their local community while learning through real-life experiences.

We'd like to say a big thank you to the amazing St Andrew firefighters for taking the time to visit and inspire our children. ❤️

🍃🌳 Tree & Nature Week 🌳🍃

What a wonderful week of exploring, creating, and learning through nature! 🌿

Our children enjoyed planting seeds, creating nature paintings and leaf collages, practising their cutting skills, exploring sensory trays, and getting hands-on with soil, leaves, flowers, sticks, and other natural treasures. These experiences sparked curiosity, creativity, and helped build fine motor skills while encouraging a love and respect for the natural world.💚

🧸 Teddy Bear Picnic Week & Pyjama Week at Redfern Cottage Early Learning Centre! 💙✨

What a wonderful week we've had! Our children enjoyed bringing their favourite teddy bears, sharing picnic fun with their friends, and coming to childcare in their cosy pyjamas.

Our Teddy Bear Picnic encouraged imagination, friendships, and meaningful play, while our Pyjama Week helped support The Pyjama Foundation, raising awareness for children in foster care through the power of learning and literacy.

It was a week filled with smiles, laughter, learning, and special memories. Thank you to all our wonderful families for joining in and making this week so special!

🌿 Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2026 🌿

This week, our children have been celebrating NAIDOC Week by learning about and appreciating the rich cultures, histories, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through stories, creative arts, music, and meaningful learning experiences, we are encouraging respect, inclusion, and a deeper understanding of Australia’s First Nations cultures.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates the strength, achievements, and lasting legacy of the NAIDOC movement. “Deadly” is a positive word in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander English, meaning amazing, excellent, and something to be proud of.

At Redfern Cottage, we are proud to create opportunities for children to learn, connect, and celebrate together.

⚽ Jersey Week at Redfern Cottage! 🏆

What an exciting week we’ve had celebrating Jersey Week! The children loved coming to the centre wearing their favourite football jerseys and team colours, bringing so much excitement and lots of smiles.

Throughout the week, our little learners enjoyed celebrating their favourite teams, taking fun photos with their friends and educators, and sharing in the excitement of the beautiful game. We also had a great time celebrating State of Origin Day, with our little supporters proudly wearing their NSW Blues and QLD Maroons colours. 💙❤️

These special experiences help children build friendships, develop a sense of belonging, and create happy memories while learning through play.

A big thank you to all our wonderful families for getting involved and helping make the week so special. We loved seeing everyone’s team spirit! 😊

⚽ Celebrating the FIFA World Cup at Redfern Cottage! 🌍

This week, our little learners have been celebrating the excitement of the FIFA World Cup by taking part in a variety of fun soccer-themed activities. Through sensory play, creative arts, painting, and hands-on experiences, the children explored teamwork, creativity, and had lots of fun while learning.

The excitement doesn’t stop here! Next week, we’ll continue with even more engaging World Cup activities, and we encourage all children to wear their favourite soccer or sports jersey throughout the week as we celebrate together. ⚽❤️
