Mindarie Senior College

Mindarie Senior College Partnering with Year 11 & 12 students to develop resilient, independent and responsible young adults. Our culture is based on mutual respect and trust.

Mindarie Senior College is a purpose built senior college designed to meet the educational needs of young adults completing Years 11 and 12. At Mindarie Senior College, your child will learn in a safe, inclusive environment that is supported by a mentoring program, and academic support strategies and monitoring, to ensure they achieve their personal best. We provide a comprehensive education with

pathways leading to attainment of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications or future employment. Our broad curriculum ensures your child can pursue their passions, which will engage and motivate them to be productive, independent learners. We operate on extended hours so your child will have free time to experience learning through structured work placement, training providers and other community organisations. It also allows them to attend tuition sessions with staff and guest presenters, practice performances and consolidate work. The relationship between teachers, support staff and students reflects a more mature approach where we focus on the whole individual - developing them academically while also nurturing their wellbeing. Our college is characterised by our Young Adult Ethos which fosters independence in learning and wellbeing:

1. Pursuing Personal Excellence by:
• setting high expectations and meaningful goals
• persevering when faced with challenges and building resilience
• accessing help and support

2. Building Positive Relationships by:
• promoting mutual respect and trust
• engaging in teamwork and cooperative learning
• contributing to a productive learning environment

3. Demonstrating Social Responsibility by:
• behaving ethically
• recognising and supporting the needs of others
• contributing to a sustainable community

Our goal is to ensure your child becomes an independent member of society - personally, academically and socially - as they prepare for the next stage of their lives. As a mature young adult, your child will have the opportunity to establish and maintain complex and supportive relationships with their peers and members of the school community. They will begin to appreciate and accept responsibility for the choices they make. We welcome parent and community contributions to college life - both on a formal and informal basis. Our College Board has notable representations from community members, with specific backgrounds and roles that provide support to our teachers and staff, our students and parents. As part of our Book Week celebrations last week, our fantastic Library staff brought this year’s theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’, to life with a fun staff CD display.

Students were challenged to match each CD to the staff member who selected it, putting their detective skills and music knowledge to the test!

Congratulations to Cooper D, who correctly identified the most staff selections and won a Bluetooth speaker. 🎉🎶

Next Thursday, 10 September, we’ll join Australians across the country in recognising R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a good day to ask, “Are you OK?” and start a meaningful conversation with someone who may be struggling.

To mark the day, we’ve planned a range of fun and engaging activities for students during Mentor and lunchtime, all designed to encourage our College community to check in with family, friends and classmates.

Be sure to stick around at lunch and get involved! 💛

This week is Education Assistant (EA) Appreciation Week, a great opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible EAs who support our students and staff 🫶

Collectively, Jillian, Jayne, Sharlene and Martina have dedicated an amazing 55 years of service to Mindarie Senior College, with Sharlene marking 20 years as our longest-serving EA.

Working alongside our teaching staff, they provide so much more than classroom support. Through their patience, encouragement, understanding and expertise, they help students overcome challenges, build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their personal and academic goals.

To show our gratitude for their positive contributions to our College, we surprised the ‘Fab Four’ with afternoon tea today 🧁

Representing Mindarie Senior College, the students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and professionalism throughout the event and delivered an exceptional performance that reflected great credit on themselves and the College.

You can see more of these excellent students at our Arts Week Music Concert, Treble Fret, on Wednesday, 16 September, from 6pm in our PA Space.

On Friday, our Student Ambassadors farewelled 9 students from Risshisha High School in Tokyo, Japan, after spending three weeks at Mindarie Senior College as part of our annual cultural exchange program. The group celebrated with some classic Australian treats, including TimTams and lamingtons!

The exchange has been a valuable cultural experience for our visitors, Student Ambassadors and local host families, with many wonderful friendships formed along the way. One exchange student commented; “I was privileged to have such an experience, and I got to meet wonderful people!”.

We wish our visitors safe travels and hope they stay in touch. Thanks again to Gold Educational Tours for organising this fantastic opportunity.

Our Year 11 and Year 12 TEAM (Talented & Elite Athletes Mindarie) students recently visited Recwell, the recovery and wellness facility in Wangara.

Our athletes were able to experience the recovery techniques of contrast therapy (sauna, hot plunge and cold plunge) and a steam room.

Many thanks to Recwell for hosting us!
