We have been in the Marshall Islands this week to join in their celebrations for International Day of University Sport. What a fun time as our visit also coincided with the island cultural week - known as Manit festival. 🤩

Students celebrated Marshall Islands style with coconut husking, racing and juggling followed walk a walkathon around campus. We had more than 120 students and staff walk 1km around the campus grounds. That counts as 100+km to celebrate FISU

Shout out to the student leaders from the College of the Marshall Islands for their great organisation and coverage of the day and the Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee for their support!

International Day of University Sport has been celebrated across the Pacific. Our friends in French Polynesia held their celebrations using volleyball as the platform to connect students.

Held annually on 20 September - International Day of University Sport is recognised by UNESCO and celebrated globally across the world university sport community. FISU

Vale, our friend, Eric Michalak.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Eric's passing. He was not only a respected colleague, but someone who genuinely believed in the power of university sport to bring people together, build friendships and create opportunities for young people.

Eric's passion for developing university sport in New Caledonia and across Oceania was evident in everything he did. His leadership, kindness and commitment earned the respect and friendship of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

On behalf of FISU Oceania, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Eric's family, friends, colleagues and the entire university sport community in New Caledonia. His contribution to our movement has left a lasting legacy and he will be remembered with great respect and affection"

Under the theme “Stand with science”, this year’s observance launches a year‑long campaign celebrating the power of scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet. We also recognise the importance sport and activity has on good health and how it can be used as to prevent long term health costs for communities

Today is International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. FISU Oceania stands united with Sports Federations across the world as we all show our as a symbol of peace through sport. More than a gesture, the embodies a global movement that promotes sport as a tool for building a culture of peace. Sport is a strategic tool for building bridges between people and breaking down barriers to inclusion, leaving no one behind.
