Our K/6 S students have been busy exploring shapes in their everyday environment while developing their understanding of positional language. Through hands-on investigations, students searched for and identified 2D shapes around the Engine room and playground, describing where objects were located using words such as on, under, left, right and between.
By engaging in practical, real-world learning experiences, students were able to make meaningful connections between mathematical concepts and their surroundings. Hands-on learning is so important in the early years as it supports students to build understanding through exploration, discussion, and active participation.
We are proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity our students showed as they investigated mathematics in the world around them! ππ

π€π‘ Becoming AI Researchers!
3/4 Lumos students recently embarked on an exciting journey through Googleβs AI Quest, an interactive learning experience that challenged them to step into the shoes of real-world AI researchers. Throughout the quest, students explored how artificial intelligence can be used to solve problems, collected and analysed data, evaluated the quality of information and tested solutions to help make predictions and informed decisions.
The experience helped students develop critical thinking, problem-solving and digital literacy skills while building an understanding of how AI works, the importance of quality data and the role humans play in guiding technology. Most importantly, students learned that AI is a powerful tool that can be used responsibly to help address real-world challenges.
βοΈ As part of our English Iceberg unit, students have also been busy researching and creating detailed iceberg diagrams. After gathering information and carefully drafting their designs by hand, students transformed their work into a digital diagram using Canva. This process strengthened their research, note-taking, writing and digital design skills while deepening their understanding of informational texts and visual representations. π§

Cooking with Kidsπ§

Yesterday, a group of selected Year 6 students enjoyed a wonderful day in the kitchen, preparing delicious One Pan Beef Noodles and Fairy Bread Slice.
A special highlight was using fresh shallots grown in our school garden, adding an extra touch of homegrown flavour to their cooking.
Students demonstrated excellent kitchen skills as they confidently chopped onions and shallots (despite a few tears!). Students learnt how to melt chocolate in the microwave and to cook in an electric fry pan safely.
After washing up and tidying their work benches, everyone sat down together to enjoy the lunch they had prepared. Students also took home some noodles and slice to share with their families.
Miss Aneta and Miss Jenni were very impressed with the studentsβ teamwork, manners, and strong work ethic.
Great work, Year 6! We are proud of your effort and enthusiasm in the kitchen.

π΄βͺοΈπ΅ Boccia Tournament 2026 π΅βͺοΈπ΄
On Tuesday 2nd June, students from Milperra Public Schoolβs Support Unit proudly represented our school at the annual Boccia Tournament, competing alongside students from a number of primary schools across South-West Sydney.
Chloe, Ella, Mackenzie, Lily, Felix and Ranyar demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork and determination throughout the day. The matches were close and competitive, with some fantastic victories and a few challenging losses, but every game provided an opportunity to learn, grow and have fun.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students supported one another, showed resilience, displayed excellent sportsmanship and represented MPS with pride. Their positive attitudes and teamwork were on display from start to finish.
While we did not progress to the State Finals in Term 3, our 2026 Boccia team achieved so much and should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations to all involved - we canβt wait to see what next yearβs tournament brings!
π Well done, team!
