THE MAGIC OF MUD!
We have reached the end of another successfully messy mud week! The children of all ages enjoyed getting outside in the dirt and fully immersing themselves in all the experiences.
Mud play is a fun source of childhood joy! It provides an ideal platform for children to immerse themselves in one of natures finest elements and in doing so build a life-long connection to the natural world - Nature Play SA
What a fun week we had, and although mud week only happens once a year, here at GSELC we love enjoying the outdoors in all conditions, all year round 🌳🌈

MUD WEEK!
A reminder that this week is Mud Week! One of the best weeks on the childcare calendar.
Today the children have participated in all sorts of muddy fun! Sliding down the mud slide, making mud cakes in the kitchen, painting with mud and much more.
We will continue to get our hands (and feet and faces) dirty all week as we enjoy all the muddy fun! Celebrating nature, the outdoors and mess.
Remember to pack plenty of spare clothes, rubber boots, a wet or plastic bag and wet weather clothes (if you wish).
We can’t wait to share all the muddy fun with you all!

NORTH SCHOOL EXCURSION
Last Friday our Emu Room children visit Millicent North Primary School. We have been lucky enough to have students from the school visit us each Friday of the school terms this year and it was our turn to go visit them.
The school students took us to play on the playground, to visit the library and for a game of all over red rover in the gym. What a great chance for the children to build on the relationships that have created with the school children.

SPRAY PAINTING 🫟
Our Wombats have been loving discovering new and exciting ways to create art. “Spray” painting has been a fun way to not only bring out the children’s creative side but also develop some skills whilst having fun.
The children love spray bottles and this motion develops their fine motor skills and coordination. What amazing little artists we have within our Wombat Room 🖼️

BAKE SALE 🧁
As part of our fundraising for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea our Emu Room children recently held a bake sale.
The children baked and decorated cupcakes and set up their own stall in the hallway to sell to children and families at pick up time.
Our first bake sale was such a success that we have decided to do it again. Bring along your coins this week to buy a treat to go towards Cancer Council Australia.
Well done on your fundraising Emu Room children, you all make such great bakers and stall operators!

JAM BAND 🎸
Earlier this month our Emu Room children were invited to St Anthony's Catholic Primary School Millicent for a concert! Jam Band is a interactive music-theatre performance aligned with the school curriculum.
Jam Band isn’t just a performance, it allows the children to be the performers!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the concert and were captivated the entire time. Almost just as exciting, was the bus ride to St Anthony’s. Thankyou so much to those that organised and invited us to the Jam Band performance. As a Centre we love to continuously build and develop our community connections 🥁🎺

COOKING WITH ROZZI 🧑‍🍳🍝
Today we welcomed Rosangela from Alina Piccolina back to GSELC for another Italian culinary class. On today’s menu was gnocchi… yum!! The children all had a chance to contribute to the cooking process, cracking the eggs, ricing the potatoes or shaping the gnocchi.
Involving the children in cooking is beneficial for developing and encouraging many lifelong skills. Listening and following instructions, working as a team as well as fine motor skill development. Cooking also encourages early numeracy and literacy skills. Promoting creativity and of course learning culture and traditions surrounding food.
Thankyou for visiting Rozzi! We look forward to what we get to cook with you next time 🇮🇹

To continue to develop your child’s interest in Italian cooking and culture, Rozzi’s book, Alina Piccolina and her adventures with Zietta, is available to buy here at the Centre. The book and recipe card is $20 and the full kit which includes a gnocchi board is $30 - see the office staff if you’d like to buy one.

ALL IN ❤️💛🖤
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. To explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia (Reconciliation Australia website).

This years theme was “All In”, a call for all Australians to commit to achieving reconciliation within our country not just during reconciliation week but every single day.

As a community at GSELC we showed our respect and commitment to the theme through our collaborative artwork. Each child, staff member and family were invited to place a handprint within the heart which then created a beautiful final piece, representing our commitment to reconciliation in Australia.

As part of reconciliation week, each room also did activities with the children and created displays which are proudly presented for all to see.

Aunty Jenny visit for Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🖤
As part of Reconciliation Week but also as an extension on the children’s learning we invited Aunty Jenny to join us last Friday.
The children have developed a strong interest and curiosity of the face/body painting in the book “Somebody’s Land”. Aunty Jenny joined us to read the book as well as share some of her own knowledge and stories with us.
Aunty Jenny then gave each child their own indigenous face painting, talking about the different patterns and symbols.
We joined Aunty Jenny in learning different indigenous dances and using the tapping sticks.
Thankyou to much Aunty Jenny for sharing your culture with the children!
