πŸŒ±πŸ”¬ SCIENCE WEEK – GRASS HEADS! πŸ”¬πŸŒ±

For Science Week, the children have been busy creating their very own Grass Heads! πŸŒ±πŸ’š

The children helped fill stockings with grass seeds and soil, shaped their Grass Heads and added some very important googly eyes πŸ‘€. We then planted them and now comes the exciting part β€” watching and waiting for their grassy hair to grow!

This hands-on experience gives the children the opportunity to explore how plants grow and what they need to survive, including soil, water, sunlight and care.

Along the way the children are developing:
🌱 Curiosity and an interest in the natural world
🌱 Early science and investigation skills
🌱 Fine motor and hand-eye coordination
🌱 Responsibility as they care for their Grass Heads
🌱 Patience as they observe changes over time
🌱 Language skills as we talk about seeds, roots and growth
🌱 Prediction skills as we wonder whose hair will grow first!

We will continue observing our Grass Heads over the coming days and weeks, watering them and watching for those first little green shoots. 🌱

EYLF: Outcomes 2, 3, 4 & 5
NQS: QA1 Educational Program and Practice β€’ QA2 Children’s Health and Safety β€’ QA3 Physical Environment

We can’t wait to see our Grass Heads get their crazy green hairstyles! πŸ’šπŸŒ±βœ‚οΈ

πŸŒ±πŸ”¬ SCIENCE WEEK – SEED EXPLORATION πŸ”¬πŸŒ±

Today our little scientists explored the wonderful world of seeds and growing!

The children had the opportunity to look closely at a variety of seeds including peas, carrots and other vegetables. They explored the different sizes, shapes, colours and textures, using their senses to investigate and compare what they discovered.

We talked about where our food comes from and what seeds need to grow, including soil, water, sunlight and lots of care. πŸŒ±β˜€οΈπŸ’§

Experiences like this encourage children to ask questions, make predictions, investigate and develop an understanding of the natural world around them.

Learning & Development:
🌱 Builds curiosity and early scientific thinking
🌱 Develops observation and investigation skills
🌱 Encourages language and new vocabulary
🌱 Supports sensory exploration and fine motor development
🌱 Teaches children about plants, food and caring for our environment
🌱 Encourages children to predict what might happen next

EYLF Outcomes:
πŸ’š Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world
πŸ’š Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners
πŸ’š Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators

Now we get to watch, wait and see what happens next! πŸŒ±πŸ‘€

πŸ§ͺ Science Week – Lemon & Baking Soda Experiment πŸ§ͺπŸ‹

Today the children became little scientists and explored a fun lemon and baking soda experiment!

The children helped add baking soda to the lemons and watched closely as the ingredients reacted together, creating lots of exciting fizzing and bubbling. We talked about what was happening, made predictions about what might happen next and used our senses to explore the changes.

πŸ”¬ What the children learned:

* Cause and effect – discovering that mixing different ingredients can create a reaction
* Early science concepts and chemical reactions
* Making predictions and observing changes
* Developing curiosity, investigation and problem-solving skills
* Building new vocabulary such as fizz, bubbles, reaction, sour and mixture
* Fine motor skills through scooping, pouring and mixing
* Taking turns, sharing equipment and learning together

🌱 EYLF Learning Outcomes:
Outcome 2: Children connect with and contribute to their world
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners – exploring, experimenting, investigating and problem solving
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators – sharing their ideas, observations and new vocabulary
