A fantastic announcement from the Australian Government Department of Education over the weekend regarding Childcare Subsidy (CCS).

Higher CCS for multiple children and removal of annual cap brought forward.

We’re making changes to CCS to help families who currently pay the most and experience the biggest barriers to participation in work.

From 10 December 2021, we’re removing the annual cap for all families who get CCS.

From 7 March 2022, families with more than one child in care will get a higher subsidy.

These changes were announced in the 2021–22 Budget. We’re implementing the changes earlier than initially announced to provide more support to families sooner.

ANNUAL CAP
Families earning more than $190,015 (2021–22 terms) have an annual subsidy cap of $10,655 per child each financial year.

From 10 December 2021, we’re removing the annual cap for all families who get CCS.

Families with more than one child in care
From 7 March 2022, families with children aged five or under in care will get a higher subsidy for their second child and younger children.

Who will be eligible?
Families may be eligible if they:
-earn less than $354,305
-have more than one child aged five or under in child care.

Who gets the higher subsidy?
Services Australia will work out which children get the higher subsidy by:
-assessing all children in the family unit
-identifying the standard rate child
-identifying the higher rate children.

The standard rate child will get the standard CCS subsidy. Younger children will get a higher subsidy.

The standard rate child is the eldest child in the family unit aged five or under who is eligible for CCS and attending care.

How much do higher rate children get?
Eligible higher rate children will receive a 30% higher subsidy, up to a maximum 95%.

Children eligible for the higher CCS rate will have the increase automatically included in their CCS percentage reported to services.

This week is Space Week and one thing we believe in is that it’s never too early to introduce the concept of space and planets to the children in the 3 year old kinder room.

Not only does it spark imagination and ignite curiosity, but it also enhances all areas of a child's development.

So this week we are introducing many different experiences to explore all things space. This week the children will increase their knowledge about space.

The first step was to set up a sensory play experience called “moon sand” for children to engage with today. By setting up this experience the children can engage in a play based learning sensory experience exploring the planets amd the moon. As you can see from the photos, they absolutely loved this experience. 🌖🪐🚀

There are many ways to develop a child’s fine motor skills and muscles in their hands so that they can successfully hold a pencil to write and draw at school.
Our Honeybees children were provided with a couple of cars along with some red and blue paint.
The children chose the colour and dipped their car into the bowl of paint and then moved the car 🚗 backwards and forwards on their paper to create some amazing art work. The children loved this art activity. 🎨

What do you do when you can’t go to Bush Kinder? We improvise.
We had our own bush adventure at Kool Kidz. We read the story “A Walk in the Bush”. The children noticed a cockatoo in the book. “We have one here” said Ashton as he pointed to the cockatoo on the shelf.
“I would like a cockatoo” said Lexi.
The children cut out paper cockatoos and we read the story again. This opened up discussion on what they eat and where they live, even what they talk to other birds about!
“Let’s fly to the tree” Elijah suggested. The children then flew their birds and landed them in the tree.
We also set up a campsite for the children to engage with and to continue their discussions about the world and the environment in which we live in. 🏕 🦜🌲

At Kool Kidz Mill Park we have embedded an early literacy program that sets every child up for success at primary school.

Literacy is the foundation for reading, writing, communicating and socialising.

Early literacy is learning about sounds, words and language.

We can support early literacy development by communicating with children, reading, and playing with rhyme.

Children develop and learn best through everyday, fun activities like singing, talking and games.

Here these children in our 3 year old kindergarten program are learning to write their names. They are also developing the all important grip of a writing instrument too as the muscles and bones in their hands continue to develop and grow.

[08/23/21]   Going live at 11am today with a book reading.

Photos from Kool Kidz Mill Park's post 17/08/2021

Today to continue science week, the children in our Honeybees room engaged in an activity called “sink or float“.

A range of objects were available to the children and a tub full of water. The idea was to see whether or not certain objects would float above water or sink to below water.

The children also had a feel of whether the object was soft or hard and heavy or light. This would determine whether the object would sink or float.

This is a great activity in which engages the children’s sensory skills and broadens their knowledge on science topics.
