In Learning on Country we have been carving signs with the names of different places around Yurrwi, to share with visitors some of the names of places we go to.
First we wrote the name of the place, then we used chisels to carve the letters out and then we darkened the letters with a blow torch to make the letters stand out.
Another day we put the signs up. Some yawirriny used the hole digger to dig the holes for the sign posts and others used the power drills to put the signs up. These signs are for Biṉimirriŋguli and Womila.
-Jacob (Middle Years)
In the middle years Yawirriny mala class we talked about the pronunciation of 'Biṉimirriŋguli' and learned that some people say 'Biṉiŋmirriŋguli' nowadays, but the old people and others still today call it 'Biṉimirriŋguli', this is the original name.
