🚒 Our Little Learners Visit the Fire Station! 🚒
Our 2–3-year-old children from Mildura Early Learning Centre had a wonderful adventure visiting our local fire station!
The children were excited to see the big red fire truck, meet the friendly firefighters and explore some of the special equipment they use to help keep our community safe. They enjoyed listening, observing and talking about what firefighters do, while learning simple fire safety messages in a fun and engaging way.
Excursions like these provide valuable opportunities for our youngest learners to explore their community, build confidence in new environments and develop their language, curiosity and understanding of the world around them. Seeing real community helpers in action creates meaningful learning experiences that children will remember.
A heartfelt thank you to our local firefighters for making our children feel so welcome and for sharing their time, kindness and knowledge with us.
🚒 Exploring our community.
❤️ Learning through real-life experiences.
✨ Growing curious, confident little learners every day.

🌿 Bush Kinder Adventures at Mildura Early Learning Centre 🌿
There’s something truly special about learning in nature.
This week, our Bush Kinder children embraced the great outdoors, where every stick, leaf and natural treasure became an invitation to explore, imagine and create. Through open-ended play, the children collaborated with their peers, solved problems, shared ideas and allowed their curiosity to guide their learning.
Bush Kinder provides endless opportunities for children to build confidence, resilience and independence while developing a deep appreciation for the natural environment. Every adventure encourages meaningful conversations, creativity and hands-on discovery that supports lifelong learning.
At Mildura Early Learning Centre, we believe the best learning happens when children are actively engaged, exploring the world around them and making meaningful connections with nature.
💚 Learning through play.
🌿 Connecting with nature.
🌱 Inspiring curious minds every day.

At Mildura Early Learning Centre, we believe every child deserves the very best start to their learning journey.
This week, our educators had the wonderful opportunity to participate in professional learning with Annette Blackett, an accredited Jolly Learning Trainer Consultant. Together, we explored exciting, evidence-based ways to support children's language, literacy and early reading skills from infancy through to kindergarten.
You may hear us talking about Jolly Phonics and Synthetic Phonics. Simply put, this approach helps children learn the sounds that letters make before learning their names. Understanding letter sounds gives children the building blocks they need to begin reading and writing with confidence.
The best part? Children don't learn this by sitting at a desk. They learn through what they do best—playing, exploring and having fun! Every day our educators intentionally weave literacy into stories, songs, rhymes, conversations, games, art, outdoor play and everyday routines, creating meaningful learning experiences that are enjoyable and engaging.
We've also introduced a Literacy & Phonics Pathway across our centre to ensure children receive consistent support as they grow, helping them develop strong communication skills, a love of books and the confidence to become lifelong learners.
We are so excited to continue creating rich literacy experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence and prepare children for future learning—while always keeping play at the heart of everything we do. 💚
If you'd like to learn more about how we support your child's literacy journey, please have a chat with one of our friendly educators. We'd love to share how learning happens through play every day at Mildura Early Learning Centre.

💜🛏️ Safe Sleep Training at Mildura Early Learning Centre 🛏️💜

On Tuesday, our team at Mildura Early Learning Centre participated in Safe Sleep Training to refresh and strengthen our knowledge of best practices for keeping children safe during rest and sleep times.

Safe sleep is a shared responsibility, and ongoing professional development ensures our educators remain up to date with current recommendations and sector standards.

✨ Important Safe Sleep Practices We Follow:
✔️ Always place babies on their back to sleep.
✔️ Ensure cots are clear of pillows, quilts, soft toys, and loose bedding.
✔️ Use safe, well-fitting sleepwear appropriate for the room temperature.
✔️ Conduct regular sleep checks and maintain active supervision.
✔️ Complete individual sleep and rest risk assessments for every child under 12 months.
✔️ Provide a safe, comfortable, and age-appropriate sleep environment.
✔️ Work closely with families to support children's individual sleep needs while maintaining safe sleep guidelines.

At Mildura Early Learning Centre, we recently reviewed and updated our Service Philosophy. As part of this process, we wanted the children’s voices to be at the heart of it, leading us to create our display, “Our Philosophy Through the Children’s Eyes.” 🤍

Through drawings, conversations and shared reflections, our Kinder children have been exploring what our philosophy looks and feels like to them in their everyday experiences at Mildura Early Learning Centre.

One of these beautiful reflections came from Stella (Kindergarten). When asked if she feels safe at kinder, what helps her feel safe, and what our educators do to support her and her friends, Stella shared:
“Our educators make us feel safe by helping us calm down by smelling the flowers and blowing out the candles.”

This thoughtful response was then represented through Stella’s drawing, capturing the importance of emotional wellbeing, co-regulation, and the nurturing relationships built within our learning environment.

At Mildura Early Learning Centre, we believe children’s voices matter, and we are so proud to see our philosophy reflected so genuinely through their perspectives. 🌿
