SENIOR MUSIC SHOWCASE 🎶

This special evening will celebrate the incredible musical talents of our Senior School students, featuring a diverse selection of performances that highlight their dedication, creativity and passion for music.

Our talented students have been working hard to prepare a wonderful program, and we look forward to sharing their performances with family, friends and members of our school community. From individual performances to ensemble pieces, the showcase promises to be an enjoyable evening filled with energy, talent and beautiful music.

BOOK WEEK: Last week, students in the Junior School have been celebrating Book Week with the theme “A Symphony of Stories”.

Each morning, students have participated in a range of engaging Book Week activities and have also had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair in the Library.

On Friday, the Swannies Junior School community came together to celebrate Book Week at our special Assembly. Students arrived dressed as their favourite book characters and proudly paraded with their classes. It was wonderful to see such a colourful array of much-loved characters, including Paddington Bear, Rapunzel and Slinky Dog, to name just a few.

A highlight of the morning was the fun-filled Staff Play, which brought the story of The Wonky Donkey to life. The performance was a wonderful addition to the celebration and created plenty of laughter and excitement among our students and community members.

It was also wonderful to see the leadership team and staff spend time with our Primary School students, from Kindy to Year 6, sharing the joy of reading through a book-reading session.

We would like to thank our entire community for their wonderful support and involvement in making Book Week such a memorable and enjoyable celebration of stories, reading and imagination.

JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY: A huge thank you to everyone for your incredible efforts at our recent Junior Cross Country Carnival! 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏼

Despite the wet and challenging weather—and the fact that many of the students didn’t even have a change of clothes—our Pre-primary through to our Year 6 students continued to approach the day with such positivity and enthusiasm .

It was a fantastic day for so many of our students, and one they won’t forget. It was wonderful to see them embrace the conditions, have fun and make the most of the experience without letting the weather dampen their spirits.

Teachers were delighted to see that the commitment of our bi-weekly Running Club has really paid off! The majority of students who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd had regularly committed to arriving at school early on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to train and build their skills. What a wonderful example of dedication and perseverance—well done!

The resilience and joy in our students was so positive and the encouragement from staff was phenomenal.

The presentations at the end of the day displayed our sense of belonging and spirit within the Houses and the students’ attitude in congratulating their peers was very special.

Finally, a big congratulations to Mungulu, our winners! What a fantastic achievement! 🏆️

🔬 Celebrating Science Week! Our Senior School students have been getting hands-on with science during lunchtime this week, with a range of activities designed to spark curiosity and make science fun.⁠

On Tuesday, students tried turmeric painting, a form of anthotype printing. Students painted paper with a mixture of turmeric and alcohol before placing leaves, seeds and other objects on top. Once exposed to sunlight, the turmeric reacted to the light, leaving behind striking natural prints.⁠

Wednesday’s lunchtime activity gave students the chance to explore the world through microscopes, while Friday will see students creating their own terrariums.⁠
⁠
Students can also take part in our week-long Seed Counting Competition, guessing the number of seeds in a jar for the chance to win café vouchers and chocolates.⁠

So far it's been a great week of experimenting, observing and discovering! 🌱🔬☀️

SENIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL: On Wednesday 5 August, roughly 600 Senior School students headed to the WA Athletics Stadium for the annual House Athletics Carnival.

Students represented their Houses across a range of track and field events, building on earlier competition in events such as the 400m and high jump. The carnival brought plenty of energy, encouragement and House spirit, with students competing, cheering on their peers and doing their best throughout the day.

The House results for the Carnival will be announced this Friday after some events that are taking place this week.

Thank you to the staff and students who helped organise and run the event, and congratulations to everyone who participated and represented their House so well.

SWAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS BREAKFAST: Nearly 300 business owners, educators, students from local schools including Swan Christian College, Mundaring Christian College, Governor Stirling Senior High School, Hampton Senior High School and local and state government representatives gathered in the Gym last Friday for the Swan Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast, organised by the Swan Chamber of Commerce and hosted at Swan Christian College.

Acting Principal Miss Katie Greenhalgh welcomed guests and shared the College’s mission to empower and equip young people to flourish in life within a community shaped by Christian faith and values.

Keynote speaker Mr Sain Dzemail from Vision Works spoke about the steps young people can take towards achieving their career goals and creating the future they envision for themselves.

Mr Dzemail was joined on the panel by Mr AJ Jayalath from Oceania Film Company and Ms Tessa Johnson from Johnson Property Corp, with students given the opportunity to ask questions and hear insights from each of the speakers. The morning was MC’d by Mr Mike Matich from The Crooked Spire.

One of the highlights of the event was the delicious hot breakfast prepared and served by our Hospitality Team.

Thank you to the Swan Chamber of Commerce and everyone who joined us for the morning with a shared vision to invest in the next generation.

We are excited to announce that Book Week 2026 will take place during Week 5, with this year's inspiring theme, "Symphony of Stories."

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading, explore new stories, and participate in a range of fun literacy activities.

Our Book Week Fair will run from Thursday 20 August until Monday 24 August in the library. During these days, students will be able to purchase items from the Library Book Fair before school from 8:30am until 9:00am, during lunch time and after school from 3:00pm until 4:30pm. Drop in and see what is on offer! Cash and Eftpos are accepted.

There will also be Book Week activities for students to enjoy each day centered around the Book Week theme for 2026.

The highlight of the week will be our Book Week Parade and Dress-Up Day, which will take place on Friday 21 August.

Students are invited to come dressed as a character from their favourite book. We encourage creativity and look forward to seeing the wonderful costumes inspired by the stories our students love.

Families are warmly invited to attend our Book Week Assembly on Friday 21 August commencing at 8:45 am in the College Gymnasium. During the Assembly, each class will have the opportunity to parade their costumes, and there will also be a special performance by our staff.

We would love to see you there as we celebrate the creativity, imagination, and joy that books bring to our community.
