Prepping a 4 pair of old jeans for an upcoming sewing projects! 👖✂️

They’ve been washed, and now it’s time to unpick the seams so the fabric can lay flat. My favourite tool for heavy fabrics is a single-sided razor blade, and finding the chain stitch tail to unzip the seam in one go is always so satisfying! 🤩

✨ Giving a designer handbag a second chance! 👜♻️

A friend kindly passed on this original Louis Vuitton handbag. It had definitely seen better days – the hardware was badly scratched, and the strap loops were starting to tear.

Instead of letting it end up in landfill, I gave it a simple makeover. ✂️ I removed the damaged loops and hardware, added two eyelets (which blend beautifully with the background), and threaded the strap through them.

Now it has a fresh new look and is perfect for those dressier occasions or when I only need to carry my phone. 📱✨

I’ve never owned a Louis Vuitton handbag before, so it’s pretty special to give this one a new lease on life 💚

One of my latest op shop finds was this lovely linen blazer, and it only needed one simple update to give it a fresh new look. 🧥✨

Changing the buttons is such an easy and affordable way to refresh a garment. I picked up these buttons for just $1 from a second-hand sewing shop, and they’ve been waiting in my stash for the perfect project. I love that they even look a bit like my glasses! 🤓🪡

It reminded me of a denim jacket I refreshed about 15 years ago. I simply swapped the jean buttons, and it looked brand new again. Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference. 💙♻️

Instead of letting this block-out fabric offcut sit in my stash, I put my thinking hat on and found the perfect project! 🧵💡

After looking through my sewing to-do list, I realised it was just the right size for a lightweight picnic blanket for our walks and hikes. 🥾🌿

I squared up the edges, overlocked them, folded over a 2 cm hem, added mitred corners, and finished it with a neat topstitch. A simple project, but now this fabric has a practical new purpose and will get plenty of use! 😊♻️

Finished... and I’m so happy with how they turned out! 🧵🚐✨

These custom roll-up block-out curtains look even better than I imagined. I think the roll-up style suits the caravan perfectly, and the colour ties in beautifully with the existing furnishings. 🤍

The best part? The cost! 💰

I bought 5 metres of fabric on special for just $93. The magnetic closures had been sitting in my sewing stash for 2 years, and I already had the thread and tools on hand.
That means I made 6 custom-made curtains for just $15.50 each! 🎉

There’s something so satisfying about creating exactly what you want, and giving those stash supplies a purpose ✨ sewing magic

One project, so many lessons! 🧵🚐

I recently worked on a set of block-out curtains for our caravan, and every single window was a different size, so there was plenty of measuring and custom fitting! 📏✂️

It was my first time sewing with block-out fabric, and I learnt a lot along the way:
✨ Lower thread tension worked better
✨ A longer stitch length gave a nicer finish
✨ The block-out backing is quite “sticky”, so topstitching from the fabric side helped it feed more smoothly
✨ A walking foot made a huge difference
✨ Use sewing clips rather than pins, they leave pin marks
✨ Most importantly, sewing a test sample first saved me so much time by helping me fine-tune the machine settings and the design before cutting into the real fabric

Every project teaches you something new, and that’s one of the things I love most about sewing. 💙

📌 Save this for later reference the next time you tackle a block-out fabric project!

✂️♻️ A quick no-sew renew

This document holder was still in great condition, but the old elastic had stretched out. After a quick look at how it was put together, I found the perfect offcut in my elastic stash and replaced it.

Now it’s ready for many more years of use. A simple fix, less waste 💚

🪡♻️ Another mending project done!
My hubby’s favourite shirt developed a tear at the elbow. The fabric is getting quite thin in that spot, but I think it’ll hold on for one more season for him to enjoy. ❤️

I used fusible interfacing to stabilise the fabric, carefully closed the tear while the adhesive was still warm, then used my sewing machine’s mending stitch to reinforce the area. 💪🧵

One more item rescued from the mending pile and back into the wardrobe instead of the bin. That’s a win in my book! 🌿✨

🪡✨ One more mending job done!

I found this lovely blouse second-hand, but the neckline was a little too low for me. I popped it on, pinned it in front of the mirror, then hand-sewed it with an invisible stitch to make it a little more closed 🧵😊

Now it’s ready for the wardrobe instead of the mending pile! 💙
