🐴 Spring pasture PSA for horse owners

The warmer weather has brought a flush of pasture growth, and we’re seeing a lot of cases of laminitis.

Lush grass can mean a sudden increase in pasture intake. Sugar levels also change with the weather, particularly after sunny days and cool nights. Horses and ponies with insulin dysregulation, EMS, PPID, excess weight or a history of laminitis need extra care.

Please check your horse’s pasture access now, even if their routine hasn’t changed. For horses at risk, speak with us about a suitable grazing and feeding plan.

Watch for a short or stiff stride, reluctance to turn, shifting weight between the feet, warm hooves or stronger digital pulses. If you suspect laminitis, take your horse off pasture, keep them comfortable on soft footing and call a vet promptly.

EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK
Spirit has been a superstar pony this week, sailing over the jumps! She's a stunning little pony and great at teaching beginners the ropes, and has just a hint of chesnut mare sass to keep it interesting 🤣

Worth it all though 😉

Grace was a super star last week for desensitization! She's new to the lesson program and I doubt has ever been close to a flag in her life but took it all in her stride ❤️

Maple is still learning but is a smart little lady who picks up new things quickly! She did amazing jumping this week, despite her limited experience with it ♥️
