Merrijig Primary School With views of Mt Buller and Mt Timbertop, we offer a unique learning environment that blends heritage with forward thinking.

🌿 Merrijig Primary School 🌿
Established in 1874, Merrijig Primary School is a small, rural P-6 school nestled in the scenic Delatite Valley, just metres from the river and framed by the stunning Victorian High Country. Located just 18km from Mansfield, our multi-age classrooms foster strong relationships and personalised learning. We’re proud of our 150-year legacy of academic success, sporting excellence, and community spirit. Our students enjoy a wide range of activities including skiing, swimming, hiking, horse riding, music, and Japanese language—preparing them for a bright future while honouring our past.

Last week, Team Merrijig had so many incredible opportunities. From our Nature Wellbeing Program Excursion to Carters Road, athletics coaching on the Lords Oval and trip to the King Valley building cultural understanding and connections with other small schools. We are all grateful and wanted to show it. No better way than a hand made card.

An intriguing Saturday afternoon read of the Merrijig Primary School 125 years celebration book with the esteemed local artist Peg Martin illustrating the front cover. Reading about 45 cm of snow in the yard, heavy floods in 1871 that took away the ‘new bridge’ and prevented students on the other side of the river attending school for 3 weeks and snakes! We still get snakes but the attached snippet is next level. So important to preserve and share with our community. As Slim Dusty said ‘looking forward, looking back’

It was a privilege to join Mt Buller Primary School to celebrate their 60th anniversary yesterday! Being a former Merrijig Primary School student who benefited from spending afternoons with Mt Buller Primary School a long time ago and a teacher at Mt Buller Primary School for 5 winters, I value the continued connection. Congratulations to the family’s and staff that make the unique school work so well!
