PUBLIC SPEAKING CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to our powerhouse Intermediate Public Speaking team, Henry, Lachlan, Alexander and Aidan who took out the pennant of the ACC Public Speaking competition.

Our Debating team (Division 2) also made a stellar performance, finishing equal first, placing second overall - by just one point! Isaac, Sebastian, George, Jackson, Justin and Adam you were outstanding.

Each of these gentlemen have done the College and famlies incredibly proud with their exceptional efforts. Well done!

STEM RACING FINALISTS - Congratulations to team Omega Racing, who has qualified for the 2026 State Finals of STEM Racing this October. Teammates Sam, Jack, Leo, Jake and Liam (Year 7) credit their dedication and teamwork to making it this far in the competition.

"We are so proud to make it to the STEM Racing State Finals with Omega Racing! It proves that all our long hours of designing, testing, and building together have truly paid off. Our secret is simple: clear roles and non-stop teamwork. Liam kept us on track as team manager, while Jack designed the car and Jake manufactured it. On the business side, Leo ran our marketing while Sam locked down our graphic design. As a Cadet class team, our goal at State is to nail our presentation, clock our fastest track time, and bring home the state trophy!"

2027 COLLEGE CAPTAINS - We are thrilled to announce our College Captains for 2027 are four exceptional young men from an incredibly strong field of candidates.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE STARS - Our Year 9s raised over $500 for St Vincent de Paul's Housing & Homelessness program with their Pop Up Op Shop at Bentleigh East Campus.

Collecting donations of books, sport equipment, clothes - plus freshly baked brownies and cookies - the boys created stalls with well-priced items for students and staff to buy. All proceeds go directly to Vinnies, along with any unsold items.

Many thanks to all who donated, bought, baked and sold to help make a difference to those in great need.

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET - Dan (Year 10) was fortunate to be invited to participate in some cricket during the British summer, playing in Essex for Westcliff Cricket Club.

"I enjoyed it thoroughly and topped off the trip with a 104 not out with the bat. The trip was fun, and I got to meet new people. I got the opportunity through a family mate who plays at Westcliff and set me up to stay over there with a family."

Dan has been playing cricket since he was just 7 years old and has been a proud ACC Cricket Team Member for the College since Year 7, and also plays for Hampton Cricket Club.

Great stuff Dan!

TOUGH GUY BOOK CLUB EVENT - We're welcoming Senior Students and their male role models (or mates!) to attend this evening where we'll be discussing 'The Wave', a short book about an experiment gone wrong.

Held on Monday 31 August, it's a great opportunity to unpack the themes of the book - critical thinking, individualism, corruption - as a group in a relaxed social setting. 'The Wave' is just 160 pages and is a very interesting read - don't miss it!

GOLD AWARD RECIPIENTS - Congratulations to our College Concert Band, who received a Gold Award for their performance at the Victorian Schools’ Music Festival, which brings together school bands, orchestras and choirs from across Victoria.

"The students have been working hard to perfect their performance program. It has been a few years since we last participated in this event, so we are very excited to be returning to such a wonderful festival. Our musicians worked really well as an ensemble and gave a wonderful performance. After months of hard work, dedication and commitment to weekly before-school rehearsals, the students are absolutely thrilled to have achieved such an amazing result. A big thank you to instrumental teacher Dave Hedges who conducts this ensemble." Laura McCormick, Director of Music

STEM RACING FINALISTS - Congratulations to Team Vitality, who has qualified for 2026 State Finals of STEM Racing this October.

Luca (Year 8 ), Ren, Larry, Samuel (Year 9) and Aaron (Year 11) are competing in the Professional Class - the highest level within the competition. This is a great achievement for each of the team members, with Aaron, Larry and Ren marking their 3rd State Finals (plus a National Final each), Sam's 2nd State Final (and a National Final) and Luca's 2nd State Final.

"We were all very exited and are honoured to be able to represent the College at a state level. Our goal for the State Finals is to win in our competition class and progress straight through to the National Finals, which we believe we can do because of our experience and commitment to the competition."

DEBATING DREAMS - Keen Year 7 Debaters James and James met with Will, our Public Speaking and Debating Captain to discuss the skills and opportunities that Debating builds.

"It was great to meet with James and James to teach them about what Debating involves, the various opportunities, and explain why they should pursue it. This year, our Year 7s and Year 8s have been given the opportunity to begin Debating early on in their journey at the College, with junior competitions in our local areas.

It was great to see their enthusiasm and eagerness to get stuck in – the future of St Bede’s Debating is bright."
