📚 Is your child heading into Year 5? Parents, this one’s for you.
They call it the “Year 5 slump” for a reason.
NAPLAN Reading data shows a noticeable drop in results between Year 3 and Year 5, but why?
👉 Because many students begin to fall into these common reading habits without even realising it.
These are the TOP 4 reading mistakes we see again and again in Year 5 students 👀
And the tricky part? Most kids don’t know they’re doing them.
✨ The good news: every single one can be fixed with the right support and strategies.
💬 Which one sounds most like your child right now - 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Getting into the habit of reading daily has so many benefits for each of us. We highly recommend all of our students pick up a book every single day, even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes.
Reading can help us:
- increase our vocabulary
- improve our spelling and grammar
- improve our memories
- increase creativity
- reduce stress
- improve focus and concentration
- get a better nights sleep

Studying alone or studying with others?
With Preliminary exams fast approaching for our Year 11 students, and HSC exams right around the corner, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to discuss why some students love studying with their peers, and others are much more productive when studying alone.
We will start off by saying there is no right or wrong answer, and at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.
Studying with your peers can be great for collaboration, boosting memory retention and increasing your motivation to study. It also offers new perspectives and can help make studying more enjoyable.
On the other hand, studying alone can increase your focus, eliminate distractions and allows you to work through your content at your own pace. You can spend as much or little time on each topic as you need and can therefore become more efficient.
We’d love to hear what your favourite method of studying is!
