This has nothing to do with what we’ve been learning about (well it kind of does). This absolutely deserves a mention for an amazing example of parents making the time to let their children do the nice things.
One of the boys at Scola and I spend loads of time gardening and building. Recently he’s been telling me about his Easter plans and the trip to Rottnest with his family. “We’ll go fishing” he always tells me and ALWAYS has a funny anecdote about what they catch (world record size whiting!)
Getting back from Easter break I was met with a little brown bag and a huge crayfish! “Garlic butter and on the barbecue Óran”. Right you are, you legend. What a recipe!
Even had a go at the legs (Rottnest Lollipops as he calls them).
Anyway, I thought it was a nice chance to share some amazing parenting (and not just because I reaped the rewards!). This boy and his family caught two lobsters, and he wanted to share one with me. They saved it and made the time and space for him to mind his gift for the day and share it himself when the time came. And how excited he was to hear about it the next morning! (Yes, it was shared!)
We talk about this idea of community building in early childhood and what a special example I’ll hold onto for the rest of my career.
