🇵🇪 Franelero (Peru) 😂

Literal translation: Flanneler.
Implied meaning: It is an adjective you use for a person who tries too hard to please someone, especially if this person is in a position of authority or power. People find this kind of attitude quite unpleasant.

*🇦🇷 In Argentina, people use the adjective “Lame culo” (Arse-licker) 🙈 with similar meaning.

Little history: This adjective could come from the word “franela” (flannel) that people use to polish objects to make them bright by rubbing them constantly.

✨ Literal translation: He who gets up early in the morning, God helps him.
✨ Implied meaning: This means that if you get up early in the morning you'll have more possibilities to have success in your work or in what you’re doing. This proverb also means that you'll receive blessing in whatever you're doing if you do something before than everyone else or if you're proactive and have initiative.

🇦🇨 Early bird gets the worm

✨ Traducción literal: Pájaro madrugador atrapa al gusano.
✨ Significado implícito: Este significa que si llegas temprano a algún lugar o a hacer algo tendrás más ventaja porque lo harás inmediatamente o antes que cualquiera. También se usa este refrán para señalar que una persona que llega primero a algún lugar o hace antes del trabajo, será más exitoso.

Ejemplos:

Literal translation: You put your foot in.

Implied meaning: You use this expression when the person you’re talking with has made a mistake, said something inappropriate or something he/she shouldn’t share.

Eg.
- Ella no está embarazada, solamente está usando un vestido muy grande. No debiste felicitarla por el embarazo, metiste la pata.

- She’s not pregnant; she’s just wearing a big dress. You shouldn’t say congratulations for the

Literal translation: New broom sweeps well

Implied meaning: This proverb in Spanish is used to mean that a person or thing new will work much better than someone or something which has been working already. In Spanish, this expression is used not just in work environments, it's also used in relationships (as a new boyfriend, girlfriend or friend).

🇦🇺 A new broom sweeps clean, but the oldest knows the corners

Traducción literal: Una escoba nueva barre limpio, pero la vieja conoce las esquinas.

Significado implícito: Esta expresión en Inglés se usa básicamente para el ambiente de trabajo, en una organización, y se refiere a que un nuevo jefe o un nuevo empleado traerá una visión fresca y por eso implementará mejores medidas para generar buenos resultados. Sin embargo, se señala que los viejos jefes o trabajadores conocen mejor la organización y eso es una ventaja también.

En Inglés también se puede usar sólo la primera parte de la frase, dejando la segunda implícita: A new broom sweeps clean...

Implied meaning: This expression is used when you can recognise that something is not as it appears to be or that something dishonest or wrong is happening.

Literal translation: He thinks he's the last Coke in the desert/ She thinks she's the last Coke in the desert

Implied meaning: It's an informal and humorous expression to mean sarcastically that this person believes there's none like him or her because they believe they're superior to everyone else. Normally, this expression is used when that person shows arrogance to others.

This expression -which is used in some Latin American countries - comes from the fact that you would never refuse a fresh in the desert mainly if this one is the last one. Wouldn't you? 😉

Meaning: This means to in something you're doing and not to give up despite of difficulties. If you tell someone "Persiste" means that you're encouraging this person to keep trying to do something and not to give up even if they feel it can be difficult.
