Kinder Council🌟📚
Our Kinder Council met for the first time this week and had some wonderful discussions about what makes our kindergarten a happy, safe, and exciting place to learn and play.
Here is what the children shared and discussed:
* We began by acknowledging Country together and showing respect for the Traditional Custodians of the land.
* The children shared what they love most about coming to kindergarten, including playing with friends, exploring toys and boxes, and enjoying time together.
* When asked what they would like to learn, the children expressed an interest in reading books, writing, and learning different languages and ways to say hello from cultures around the world.
* The children had thoughtful ideas about how to help everyone feel happy at kinder, including being kind to one another, asking for consent before giving hugs, and doing nice things for friends.
* We also discussed safety. The children shared that falling over, playground accidents, and being aware of who is around can make them feel unsafe. They suggested finding a safe space, such as a tent, when they need comfort.
* Looking ahead to big school, the children would like to learn skills such as using the monkey bars.
* The children also shared creative ideas for improving our outdoor spaces, including rainbows, bikes, maracas, and teddy bars, and extra support on the monkey bars.
* During our discussion about community walks, the children reminded us to watch out for roads, cars, snakes, and spiders.
* For group times, the children shared that they enjoy sitting on the mat and would like to learn more about different languages. Some suggestions for future group times included drawing and sitting on chairs.
* Finally, one of our children suggested an exciting future adventure – a visit to a real-life park!
We love hearing the voices, ideas, and perspectives of our children. Their contributions help shape our learning environment and ensure that every child feels valued, respected, and heard.
