"Animals and Their Habitats Experience"
🐯🐳
This morning, we read a book in Banksia room about animals and their different habitats. The children were highly engaged and showed great curiosity, asking many questions about both sea animals and land animals. Their excitement inspired us to set up an activity that allowed them to explore these concepts through hands-on learning.
We prepared a tuff tray divided into two sections. One side was filled with blue slime to represent water, where we placed various sea animals. The other side was covered with green grass matting and filled with land animals. As soon as the children approached the tray, they were eager to explore. Many were fascinated by the texture of the slime and enjoyed pulling the animals out, saying they were “helping them” or “saving them.”
Throughout the experience, children named different sea and land animals, shared their ideas, and had rich conversations with their friends. They discussed the colour and feel of the slime, made up stories about the animals, and compared their knowledge with one another.
A few children also shared their personal experiences of visiting the zoo with their families, showing how they connect learning to their real-world experiences.
This activity provided a fun, sensory-rich way for children to explore the concept of habitats while encouraging communication, creativity, and social interaction. It was a wonderful experience to support learning through play and discovery.
