National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.

The first National Sorry Day was held on 26 May 1998, one year after the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament. The Bringing Them Home report is a result of a Government Inquiry into the past policies which caused children to be removed from their families and communities in the 20th century.

Following this, in 2000, there was one issue that was high on the agenda at the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk for reconciliation – an apology to the Stolen Generations.

It was also high in the sky, when a group of people – independent to the organisation of the walk – had the word ‘sorry’ written in the clear blue skies above the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Such was the intensity of feeling and support for Stolen Generations members – many of whom were among the huge crowd that day.

Today, twenty-three years after the Bringing Them Home report and twelve years since the National Apology, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are still 10.6 times more likely than non-Indigenous children to be removed from their families.

We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without accepting the truth of our history. Sorry Day asks us to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, and in doing so, reminds us that historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families, communities, and peoples.

🌸 Mother’s Day High Tea 🌸

What a beautiful and heartwarming afternoon we shared at our recent Mother’s Day High Tea! We were so delighted to see such a wonderful turnout, with many mums, grandmothers, and special loved ones joining us to celebrate alongside their precious little ones. ☀️💕

The sunshine, laughter, and meaningful moments made the day truly special. Families enjoyed a range of engaging experiences including music and movement, cupcake decorating, a mini nail salon, and a creative colouring station — all designed to create joyful memories together. 🧁🎶💅🎨

We feel incredibly grateful and honoured to be trusted with your child’s learning and development journey. Thank you for being part of our community and for sharing these special moments with us. 💛

Kids Own ECLC is a believer that, Children are born belonging to a culture shaped by traditional practices, heritage, and ancestral knowledge. It is also shaped by the experiences, values, and beliefs of individual families and communities.

The Approved Learning Frameworks recognise culture as living and dynamic and highlights the importance of respecting the diverse identities children bring into education and care settings (p. 16).

When people talk about kindergarten readiness, academics tend to get all the attention. But the skills kids really need to be successful in the classroom come long before worksheets.

Let's break down the foundational skills that support learning, participation, and independence, including:
• regulating emotions and calming the body
• transitioning between activities
• using the bathroom and washing hands
• managing clothing and lunch containers
• attending, listening, and following directions
• sharing, waiting, and taking turns

These are the skills that help kids function in a classroom—and they develop through play, routines, and supportive experiences over time.

🏮✨ Happy Chinese New Year! ✨🏮

Wishing joy, prosperity, and good fortune to all families celebrating this special time. In 2026, Chinese New Year begins on February 17 and concludes with the Lantern Festival on March 3, marking 15 days of celebration.

This festive season is traditionally celebrated with family gatherings, delicious shared meals, giving red envelopes for luck, cultural performances, lantern displays, and wishes for happiness and success in the year ahead.

We feel so grateful to be part of a diverse community where children can learn about and appreciate different cultures, traditions, and celebrations. Moments like these help nurture curiosity, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.
