Sweet As | NAIDOC week student screening 05/05/2026

Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 on Tue 14 July with a FREE screening of Jub Clerc's 'Sweet As', a coming-of-age road movie set in the Pilbara region of W.A.

This screening includes a film viewing, followed by a talk where we'll unpack how the film communicates meaning through character, theme, and film form.

This is a mob‑first session designed specifically for First Nations students, with teachers and school staff welcome to attend and support them.

In this FREE workshop for Years 4-6, students will analyse media campaigns for social causes, before planning and animating their own messages on an important issue or topic. 🗨 📣

This program builds students’ media literacy through a balance of analysis and creative production, and is free for Vic Gov schools.

Media teachers: looking for a great First Nations' focused Australian film for your Media classroom? Our free resource for Jub Clerc's 'Sweet As' (2022) is now online.

Drawing on Clerc’s own experience, the film presents the story of Murra, a 15-year-old girl from Port Hedland in Western Australia who embarks on a week-long photographic safari tour for at-risk teens. 📸 🚌

Sweet As | Learning resource Explore 'Sweet As', the debut feature film from Nyul Nyul/Yawuru woman and writer/director Jub Clerc, which tells the story of Murra, a 15-year-old Indigenous girl who embarks on a week-long photographic safari tour for ‘at risk’ teens.

Attention Year 4-6 teachers!

This year we have 5 dates for our FREE Creating Change: Social message-making workshop, as part of the DET's Victorian Challenge and Enrichment series. Students will develop key media literacy skills through analysis and interpretation, before producing their own animated media messages on a significant topic.

Teachers: We're hosting a program exploring careers in games for First Nations Secondary students, Fri 13 March.

Completely free, the day will feature insights from leading First Nations creatives, as well as a hands-on text-based adventure game design workshop.
