YMCA Early Learning

YMCA Early Learning We are a well established, trusted not-for-profit Early Learning provider offering long day care and kindergarten and pre school programs.

Our long-standing educators are committed to inspiring lifelong learners and creating a strong sense of community. The Y Victoria runs 18 Early Learning Centres across Victoria and NSW. Formerly the YMCA, we are a not-for-profit and the largest global youth movement. Our Early Learning Centres (ELCs) are safe, supportive spaces that offer high quality early learning education and care for children

aged six weeks to five years old. We also offer Free Kinder at all of our 18 Centres. We work closely with our families to develop and nurture independent learners and support every child's uniqueness. All of our Early Learning Centres have beautifully lit indoor spaces and purpose built natural yards. Our Early Learning Centres are often co located with our OSHC services at adjoining primary schools (and sometimes Kingswims, which are owned by the y). Children are able to transition from being part of our early learning programs to being part of our OSHC community, attending before and after school care and school holiday programs.

Across all of our Centres, we strongly believe that art is a process, not a product. There is no perfect picture, only countless opportunities to create.

From babies to kindergarten, our young artists discover and explore colours, textures and how to express themselves differently. Every mark is part of children's learning.

Through these learning experience, children are developing their fine-motor skills, hand eye coordination, sensory awareness, creativity, concentration and confidence.

Take a look at what our talented artists at Derrimut have produced!

What a beautiful week of celebrating the special people who hold such an important place in our children’s lives across our Centres.

Throughout the week at our Derrimut Centre, children enjoyed a wonderful range of experiences with their Dads/special people, creating opportunities to make precious memories together.

We hope all of the Fathers and special people in our community have a lovely day on Sunday.

"Play the Roly Poly song! I want to dance!" That’s what one of our parents heard on their way home from our early learning centre at Point Cook.

We love to hear that children share what they learn in early learning at home with their families.

Our beautiful garden is growing!

Over the past few weeks, the children at our Derrimut centre have been busy working on our gardening project. It has been wonderful to watch our vegetable garden grow as children continue to care for, explore and learn from the plants around them.

We have recently added bush herbs, creating another opportunity for children to explore native plants through their senses as they touch, smell, observe and notice how the plants grow.

This experience also helps children develop a deeper connection to Country and nature, and the importance of caring for the environment.

Our kindergarten children at our Pakenham Centre have been embracing every opportunity to explore, discover and learn during their Bush Kinder program. Over our past two visits, the wet weather has provided a whole new level of learning and adventure.

The children have been jumping and splashing through muddy puddles, built bridges using materials they have found, explored wetland habitats and noticed how the environment changes after the rain.

We’ve also welcomed some exciting new visitors, with bush bunnies making an appearance with our usual wallaby’s and wombats during our adventures.

These experiences encourage curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, resilience and a deep connection with the natural environment.

Most importantly, the children are learning that nature provides endless opportunities for discovery, even when things get a little muddy!

We are delighted to share that another one of our Centres in Wyndham Vale has achieved Exceeding in their recent Assessment and Rating (A&R). Congratulations to Deepali, Anjana and our Management and educator team for achieving this result.

The report highlighted the exceptional relationships across the service with children and families, the approach and commitment to ensuring child safety and the consideration to planning educational programs for children.

"Educators drew on their strong knowledge of children both as individuals and in groups and consistently used this information to inform the development of the educational program. A deep understanding of children's interests, abilities, backgrounds and community needs resulted in deliberate actions of educators and the enhancement of children's learning, language and development. Educator continuously drew on family interests ad activities they participated in at home and during holidays, such as outings and celebrations"

The children and families at our Wyndham Vale Centre are very lucky to have you all. Drop the team a note of congratulations below!

The kindergarten children at our Kororoit Creek Centre had an exciting hands-on volcano experience recently!

As they watched the volcano erupt, the children explored early science concepts such as chemical reactions, cause and effect, and how volcanoes work. They eagerly shared their predictions, asked thoughtful questions, and observed the changes happening right before their eyes.

Experiences like these encourage children to investigate, think critically, and build confidence as they learn through play. Working together also strengthened their communication, teamwork, and social skills as they discovered, discussed, and celebrated the eruption with their friends.

At the Y, we love creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning.

What a wonderful week celebrating the magic of stories at Derrimut and Taylors Hill!

Children’s favourite stories came to life through storytime, imaginative play, creative experiences and dress-ups. Children and families shared what their favourite stories “sound like” through drawings and ideas.

We loved welcoming families to read with us, seeing children bring their favourite characters to life, and our creative educators who made costumes using recycled and natural materials.

Thank you to our wonderful children, families and educators for creating such a joyful symphony of stories!
